Laverda service in New England usa

Steve, if you do want a shop to look at the bike, possible options around New England -

AJ Cycles, Gill MA. They serviced the Morini 500 I have, before I bought it, though that's about 10 years ago. Old fashioned shop so they might be able to help.

Dunbar's at Brockton perhaps? They say they'll work on vintage bikes, and do airheads.

Maybe ask Seacoast? Closer to you, at least. They were happy to work on my Alazzurra, so the "we won't work on old stuff" didn't apply.

Thanks Peter. Folks at Seacoast are Great. I know they'll work on vintage Duc's and Guzzi's, mostly because they're well networked for parts etc. Laverda is another story. I doubt they would tie up shop / storage space while the wait for parts from Canada or Europe. There is a good local guy who has agreed to help so I'm waiting for some shims and various other consumables to arrive from Wolfgang. I think, with patience, I'll be able to handle a lot myself. What's the worst I could do, drop the cam chain into the crankcase? Bah ha, ha ha.... Actually, that possibility does frighten me.

Out on a limb here but there was(is) an MV enthusiast named Albert Bold I think in PA. He was a real
dyed in the wool MV fan and I don't mean the flavor of the week MV brand these days. You might try
and see if he will help or blow you off....

read and follow steps carefully. Easy to assume you can 'wing it'. Dropping the camchain link during removal dismantling / mantling more of an issue. Just keep the lint free cloth in place at all times. For the chain I use a 'twist tie', the long kind that might be found holding carrots etc. Easier to reposition with oily fingers. Tie wire too stiff.
Be prepared to re do the shim more than once. No need to use torque wrench until you are happy with clearance. Use the lower torque values. Head material is soft and cam support studs strip out easily.
