laverda timing wheel

Hi all,

I have been talking with a guy from ebay.co.uk, "ap-graphics", to design, using a timing wheel posted here, an aluminium timing wheel. I did it initially for myself, but as he charges additional 20GBP for the design, would be now a bit cheaper if somebody else wants to order one. The cost of it, is around 30 GBP plus 20 for the design if I am the only one buying. This last price would be shared if somebody else would purchase one.

The disc is 290mm 1'5mm thickness, laser engraved. The 22mm marking will only be "marked" the center hole is 10mm.

PM me if interested.

You're limiting your market with the A11 valve timing marked on them. It would be more useful if they were double sided with 4C camshaft timing on the other side.

Or better still, leave the A11 info off to make them applicable to a wider range of engines. People can mark their own valve timing info on them with coloured tape or marker pens if they want to.

Couple of years ago 'Classic Bike' magazine include a printed timing wheel on one their pages, the idea was to cut it out and glue it to an old CD, works a treat.

I made up a series of those using CAD software about 6 years ago. I've attached a couple of versions in PDF format. They should print out on A4 paper at the same size as a CD.

I've included those I did with Laverda 120? camshaft timing (F1 and Axtell) just for you Terry  :-*.

Can we make them 3 sided with 7C cams? What about the twin 5C and 6C cams?

Jim
On the twin I used an old radar plotting sheet (for the pre ARPA amongst us, but any 360 degree design otherwise), stuck it to thin cardboard and attached it with magnets to the starter clutch, the big hole means any degree wheel is non interchangeable with other bikes. I always time cams at max lift from the figures given, after advice from racing people. I unsuccessfully tried all sorts of things to get anywhere near the specs for SFC cams before I was advised to try that.

I have just recently managed to damage my timing disc, that was given to me by Geof Monty, who at one time was Monty and Ward motors, famous for Triumph tuning in the 60's, and I had a BSA! an incredibaly helpful man to my generation of spotty oiks, as I was when 18,no end of technical assistance provided for free and willing to help potential motorcyclists, he died last year at the age of very nearly 100, he rode his Honda CBX two weeks before he passed top man!

I would like to purchase a disc from you , it can be as shown or with 4c on the back, or integrated to the front if you like,
I leave it up to you

send me a paypal invoice to "clemlav@tinyonline.co.uk"

I'd certainly be interested in one for A!! cams with 4C on the flipside or a separate disc... how much $$ and where to send it etc? 8) 8)

Hi!

I was talking to the guy, and as I expected he said it was getting complicated  :LOL:every change in the design he charges 20GBP, so I will order mine, and I will pay this 20 extra Pounds for the A11 cam timing, if somebody else wants one, Pm me and I will pass you the item number, and you will buy it without this surplus, as sharing it is too complicated. The item is not listed on ebay for copyright reasons with the laverda logo.

I did it with A11 because is the one I will use now, but whenever I have different values, I will mark them with a marker as suggested and ignore the rest, I just need a wheel because I didn't have one and wanted to have something that looks nice, don't ask me why.

regards,
Miguel

So,

finally the guy is printing both sides of the wheel, with 4c and A11 specs. I payed on my wheel the extra costs for the design to make it easy. If any of you want one wheel, the price would be 41.5 GBP, it has to be ordered via messaging in ebay as he can't list the wheel for copyright reasons. So just contact him directly saying you want the Laverda wheel, he answers always almost automatically.

His user name: ap-graphics

Good luck!

For Series 1 engines you guys are going to need a 22mm centre hole in the disk. I don't remember what the requirement is for a series 2 engine. I think it might be the same but you'd need to check.

Not many people have 22mm drill bits lying around. So I suggest to anyone ordering a disk, ask the bloke to make the correct sized hole for you. Especially if you don't have a lathe, or at least a decent drill press (with 22mm drill) and clamps to hold the disk firmly on the drill table. If you do it yourself with a twist drill in a hand-held power drill, you'll most likely make a mess of it. It's easy to fuck it up and end up with a non-circular hole when drilling thin plate with a large diameter drill.

Alternatively, take the disk with the pilot hole to a competent engineering shop to get a nice clean 22mm hole bored in it.

the email address might be more useful, there seems to be something else listed on ebay under "ap-graphics"
I am certainly buying one and would prefer (but not put off if unavailable) it to be pre-drilled for 22mm

Or make an adapter to take 6 or 8mm.

yes even better, makes it available for any make or model of  crankshaft spigot with the correct adapter. Cheap and easy to get done.
still need the email address. 41.5 GBP's waiting

finaly got his email, enquiries@ap-graphics.co.uk

He recommended this for the 22mm hole (10mm is the delivery hole):
