Leaking brake hose/joiner

Hi all, Levo finally figured out why my brakes were leaking, had brake fluid pissing out of the right hand hose where it joins into the splitter. What actually seals these connectors? The end of the tip looks like it should mate up to something but there's nothing there! Should I try thread tape as suggested by levo? Is it the thread doing the sealing? The left one is fine! Mystified.....

Unless fitting on end of hose has a machined tapered end and mates up with splitter..... then a copper washer would suffice.

Tef would more than likely weep

It has a machined tapered end but I can't see what it is going to mate up with. Wish I hadn't thrown my old hoses out!
 
Different applications I reckon; the splitter relies on the copper washer to make the seal whereas the hose relies on a tapered seal, as with the bleed nipples on the calipers.
But of course I could be wrong :)
 
You need several copper or aluminium crush washers to fill the gap between the hex on the hose and the splitter, you will need at least one more washer than the length of the gap, I would also put some under the switch and seriously consider crush washers under the other hose as well.
I prefer copper crush washers to the aluminium type.
 
It never had copper crush washers there before, it isn't a banjo bolt...... where do the copper crush washers go. Never seen them on that connection in 40 years!

Drikko, you more than likely need a bush with a matching female taper, and a suitable male thread with a copper washer under it that seals on the splitter body...... job done !
 
Worked on my brake calipers once at a DIY shop.
The guy saw that I had copper washers on the lines where they join the calipers.
He told me to drop them and gave me small parts that are formed like lentils.
As the hoses' ends are concave, they fit in there perfectly.
They seal perfectly, never leaked there since.
Haven't seen them anywhere in catalogues, so unfortunately I don't know
where to get them. Could ask at my next visit.

Yes, sounds like you've sorted it. Old hose musta had a taper to mate with the spitter housing. Basically, some ends have washers, some ends rely on mating tapered ends (but there has to be a male-female taper to match 'em up!).
 
Problem solvered, took it all over to HEL, he said yep, wrong ends, they are making new hoses up and will deliver them this arvo and apologised profusely. He asked if all the Laverdas were the same, well all the ones I've seen are. Would that be correct?
 
BTW it's not a tapered thread, it's parallel with a washer. They fitted the ones where the nut spun around on the bit that's supposed to seal.
 
The one with least sealing leaked first..if you only fixed one side the increased pressure would have the other one leaking right away. Had the same problem with a car once.
