Making progress on my '74 3C

Where is the engine Paul ?
Missing ?
S.
Glasgow after it turned out during rebuild that the alloy had suffered from the heat.
Cases and head are scrap.
I would like to get it back before too long so as to finish the bike and sell it.

Front and back ends are done and lighting is sorted. Got a Shindengen SH775 reg/rec on the way from a friend who buys, tests, and sells them for a very fair price. I'm hoping that and the LED headlight bulb will do the job, charging-wise. I am pushing in the next 2 weeks to have it together and running, but my Norton and Suzuki need a bit of love too, so we'll see. Gotta get polishing the engine covers, see ya!

After the primary cover is on 🙄
I just put an ignition cutout switch on my Norton to stop wet-sumping. I taped a label 'fill oil' to remind myself. One can't be too careful. Its primary doesn't share lube with the engine. It's a dry clutch riding in an enclosure with a chain that needs lube (ATF works well).

I also fitted a Magnefine filter behind the oil tank on the Norton. I've seen some do that for the Laverda, may fit one. The bikes share some similarities - right shift (1-up, 3 down on Norton tho), left side primary chain/clutch, heavy clutch pull, gravel strainer oil screen.

Wow, those 50+ year-old original (I'm pretty sure) gaskets, bonded with some yellow glue, are quite thick & stubborn. Especially the lower gearbox bit. But I have my methods and tools. Took me over an hour and probably killed a few more brain cells. I was tempted to leave it be, as it was intact and smooth, and Hondabond it, but that seems iffy.

Started right up after a long sleep, tag on plate says 2005. The middle carb float bowl needed a few raps from a screwdriver handle to set things right, as it was drooling. It’s laggy at idle with a quick throttle blip. Nothing dramatic. That fart at 0:34 wasn't me, I'm looking at you, carb #3. Exhaust isn’t smoking, pipes are all the same temp, plugs look good.

It’s not putting out any volts out to the reg/rec, so that’s an issue to resolve, but at least it can be ridden around to bed in the brakes, do a plug chop, etc. Par for the course with these old E systems, as many here have informed me.
