Mastercylinder mod SFC

Well, if you’re happy with the deal Paul, that’s all that matters. 🙂
I should think that it's about as easy to sell a Black Shadow as an SFC.
I'll make do with a Rapide but since a rather nice looking Black Shadow sold for £35 000 recently.......

Paul, have you ridden one? Hope, as just a riding experience, it doesn't disappoint. I would really love to try one just once to see how they go. Just to wank on, Brain appeal or heart appeal. It's an old bike, but they do fascinate.

No, I've never ridden one. A near neighbour said that he'd give me a go on his. I'm still waiting.
When I bought my first Laverda, I'd never ridden one either.
Look where that got me.
I'm adaptable.

I had the opportunity to ride a Shadow a few years ago, it didn't disappoint! Lusty and smooth motor, underlining why it was the superbike of its time. Wasn't ready to explore the braking limits, but I doubt they're really as bad as they're made out to be. Probably the same misinformation that surrounds Laverda drum brakes.

Loved every second of that short ride!

An old friend of mine, now sadly departed, transitioned from Vincents (Black Shaddow etc) to firstly a Laverda 1200 and later a 120 Jota. He often remarked how he wished he had kept the Vincents, but more so (at the time) for the greater value than for any other reason.
Anyway, if when you get your bike Paul I hope you find it was all worth while.

I remember a work colleague who lusted after a 70’s Aust built supercar (Valiant Charger) since he was a teenager.

Once the kids hast left the family nest, he had the money to buy a very tidy and original one. Happy happy.

But…..

He was so pissed off with the way it didn’t brake, almost fell over in corners, was slow in comparison to his current car, was uncomfortable to drive and couldn’t leave it parked anywhere for fear of it being stolen…. he flogged it off shortly afterwards

We all live and learn.

Well, if we seriously tried a modern sports bike, none of us would want a Laverda. Maybe that's why lots of us don't actually ride the Laverda they possess, much.
Compare what's comparable.

Quite the opposite, Paul! There's no way even a V4 Panigale could offer me the satisfaction I get from riding my SFQ. Sure, it would go a lot faster and do all sorts of things 'better' but I just know that wouldn't translate into an equivalent ride 'joy'.

You and I maybe, but how many out there have a modern bike in the garage that get's used a lot more than the Laverda which goes out on sunny days and for club outings?

I plead guilty, I have a 750 Aprilia in the garage. It does between 300 and 500 kilometres a year. I use it for going into town, mostly for medical appointments. It's flickable and it brakes, compared to our old anvils and in town traffic, I appreciate that. The discs even work in the wet!

My Laverda on the other hand cover between 7 and 10 000 km a year.

I have a stack of bikes from 50cc to 1100cc. Sure, the modern 1100 provides a bit of a thrill when ridden fast but I get more enjoyment out of riding my older bikes. However, I’m not sure how this relates to a master cylinder mod on an SFC. Perhaps we should revisit another thread…..

Me too, but to 1400cc.

My 2008 GSX1400 Limited Edition is my go to bike. Hit the starter, and it takes me to the shops, up into the hills, onto a motorway or out into the sticks…. without a grumble.

Don’t have to ride it hard, gingerly or otherwise, just does as I ask, when I ask.

Sits in the garage happily waiting for the next ride.

Others, including the Laverda seem to like being tickled before a ride…. I’m not into hours of foreplay, just for a few minutes of pleasure as I get older.

The rear master cylinder doesn’t have any file marks. 😉

The biggest fail is non-use. We have had a strong, wet winter, and it's been a few months since I last rode, so I am hoping that won't be an issue when it finally dries out. In a typical season with plenty of riding, I check tyre pressures the day before and occasionally charge the battery, plus do an oil change every few rides, probably every 2000 km, and that's typically it.

Any time I take the Formula 750 (Zane) on a spin and go back to the old bikes, I ask myself why I am doing this to me... then the sound brakes through my thoughts and kills any doubts that might have existed...

However: I think I will go for something more modern in the near future, once the other bikes have sold. Son just bought himself a Triump 765 RS SpeedTriple. Tempting, I must admit... though I will never find the sound of it really nice...
