Mikuni VM on a 750?

He put it up at £1500, you can't be too picky at that price surely?
Well there's clearly plenty of people here who can!
By the way, the "professional" is Malcolm from Metal Malarkey Engineering who used to build the frames for Pat French aka Metisse.
He also built these so I think he's earnt the "professional" title, no inverted commas necessary. He's also a thoroughly decent guy. I'd buy that bike in a heartbeat if I had the space, but all off topic of course

Don't take it to heart mate, it can be a grumpy old place but most of them have a heart of gold.

I have no dog in this fight and I've been on this forum long enough to realize it's the very last place I'd advertise a Laverda.
I just feel a bit guilty about dragging a perfectly decent cheap one into it by way of helping to answer a mikuni question! I'm sure you're right.

Thanks for all the info, that's really valuable! If there are some other people running VM's, maybe there is a concensus on needles, jets, etc that may be available somewhere? @wavey_davey would the seller know? I have an ebay account, can always ask... That would make the whole setup part a bit easier if I go that way. I've asked Topham if they have something in file, too.
I got a swift reply from Topham, they state VM 30s are possible (which thanks you all I already knew!) and note they are not clamp fitted but they sell rubber inlet manifold parts that will fit the carburettor. I'll need to measure if they will the fit the Laverda head, if they do that may be one less issue. Otherwise..... hmmm.

PHF32s are noted as an option too, I'm not dead set on the VMs, but would like something good & affordable and at 152€ (each) at new the value does not seem that bad as used unknown condition VHBs seem to be in the 250-300 range -each... The price of VM parts is noted however.... Performance gains would be neat, but given the mileage and the fact that it's a GT... not really a priority :)

These are the intake parts:
So as a plan B I'll check intake dimensions, choke parts are cable operated so that sounds like it may work too.

But first I'll have a better look at the state of the VHB's myself before assuming anything and going straight into a solution :)

Used VHBs at 250-300 each?
In Abu Dabi or Dubai?

Ebay, local site (Marktplaats), etc... :(
However my brother noted there's a set on LBC in Liesle, France at the moment that, at least on the outside, look nice and complete, for 230€.

My last French usage was 30 years ago though so figuring out how to create an account and contact a seller & ask for a photo of the slides/body interiour.... I keep getting French website errors somehow.
Translate does not seem to like that site very much😅

I'll ask if you like.
Do you want to make an offer or buy at asked price?

That would be awesome Paul!
If they are good to use (other than a check/fresh up with o rings, gaskets, maybe needles/jets etc?) I have no problem with buying at the asking price (if it is for the pair)

--------------------------
I've just had a look at one of mine but my laptop seems to have joined LBC in regards to errors so it will not sync the photos. Hopefully later.
The slide has a play at the top of the body of about 0,4mm front to back and 1 mm left to right. I carefully measured with feeler blades that would easily fit so it's probably 0,1mm or so more in reality.

The slide is so loose you can twist it around a bit. I have roughly measured the slide itself in all dimensions but they may have been square slides when new but they are tapered in all dimensions, varies between 0,2 and 0,5mm top to bottom, front to back, left to right. I don't have a reference "good" one so I didn't record the exact measurements or there the variations were exactly. They are marked 7454.50 on the filter side.
Needles look quite new but I can't imagine with the slides being so loose even at the top they wil last long like this?

I've ordered and paid them for you. They'll be sent to my place at a cost of €5. I'll send them on to you and let you know total cost then.
Paul

Really appreciated, Paul! Kind of hard to put in text how happy I am....
Please send me the details via PM when you have them and I'll get it sorted as soon as possible! :)

Thanks again!
The carbs have arrived.
I've given them a quick once over and they appear to be in excellent condition. You'll just need two double fuel pipe fixations so as to fit a fuel pipe between the two carbs.

I now need to know which country you're from so as to work out total cost with postage to you.
I'll also need to how you intend to cover the costs, Paypal or bank draft.
I'll need your full name and address, an email and a phone number.
Private message would be appropriate.

Paul
