Motobatt on SF2

Just purchased a Motobatt

MBTX30UHD for my SF2. Removed tool tray and still cannot get to fit. Do I have to loosen battery tray from mudguard the revolt after. Thought I would ask before going further.

I gather you're fitting one of the monster original size batteries? I don't recall how I got mine in and out, but recall it's not easy - and it was VERY frustrating! On my second frame some moron had actually used a peen hammer to bash in the frame tube obviously to allow removal/fitment of said monster battery. The simple solution is to downsize to a smaller but perfectly adequate alternative (too late for that now of course) - a modern quality brand 18AH is more than adequate.

Someone will be along shortly with the answer you require.

My new LifePo is about the size and weight of two cigarette packets, but I've converted to alternator. No good to a std SF owner.

From memory to fit a huge original size battery it was best to remove the airfilter housing, maybe drop one of the carburettors out of the way, not a hard job. Generally these days people tend to fit 16 or 18 amp batteries that can go in from the side.

I went much smaller than MBTX30UHD - use MBTX14U on my SF. Easily enough juice. Makes plenty of space for tools and DMC box.

Take your Motobatt back and fit a small battery.
Laverda fitted big batteries at the time because they didn't fit a kickstart and battery technology wasn't what it is now.
If you keep points on your SF2, it doesn't need much juice to start.

I use this for a 180 deg 1200 Triple, works fine

This started as a battery thread so it is highly unlikely it will become one.

I predict it will morph into either a brake pad material thread or a handlebar height/width thread.

Prove me wrong!

It started as "how do I get my enormous Motobatt into my SF2" and it's become " I have this battery in my triple" in 7 posts.

I hope that the SF2 in question isn't orange.
