...... while someone at the BBC decided this tune ........ about a day in the life of a heroin addict ....... would be the perfect thing with which to advertise their television channels .........

Winston Rodney .... ( Burning Spear ) ......... I bought a couple of his albums back in the `seventies ..........

...... plus Shane McGowan ...... who apparently left £5 million in his will ....... I though he`d drunk it all ........

....... and Tammy Wynette !! .......... Providing the vocals on KLF`s " Justified And Ancient " ... ( I bet she wondered what the hell that was all about ) ......
Not to mention drug addiction ..... having her house set on fire whilst she slept ........ and being kidnapped whilst out shopping , shut in the boot of the car before eventually being released by the side of the road eighty miles away .........


The BBC certainly knew how to pick them .........

Shane MacGowan was a beautiful soul—a whole soul, talented and lost—the kind that makes men so compelling through their sensitivity in speaking about things and telling stories.

First I knew about Shane McGowan was in `76 when he was photographed in the NME covered in blood after just having his earlobe bitten by his girlfriend at a Clash gig at the ICA ......... Even at that early stage his propensity for self promotion was in evidence by managing to have a photographer nearby to record the gory details ..........

Apparently , a feature of Shane at the bar would be an endless stream of people queuing up to buy HIM a drink ....... no wonder the £5 million stayed safe and sound ........

Maybe I`m being a little harsh ....... I guess he was alright really ........ despite the " plastic paddy " London public schoolboy jibes ........

Then there was the Nipple Erectors / Nips but I can`t remember much about them offhand ........

I do vaguely remember a full page advert for The Pogues ( maybe ) which featured a couple of verses of prose which was beautifully written ........ whether this was actually composed by him , or if he was doing an Arday by lifting it from somewhere else I`m not sure , but it was nicely presented .........

........ Mind you , if I hear bloody " A Fairy Tale Of New York " one more time in the weeks leading up to Christmas , then I may not be responsible for my actions .........

It was Shane's talent that made his fortune; he didn't ask anyone for anything.
The money-making industry did the rest.
He almost certainly brought more money to the Crown than he cost it.
He was a rock star, just like the others known for their excesses—alcohol, drugs, and the rest.
It’s a choice of lifestyle: live like a lion—indulging in excess, embracing the world, and gaining a wealth of experience—and die relatively young (or not), or live like a sheep until you're 90 in a monotonous existence, ending up with no muscle mass, wearing diapers, and having a nurse tell you it's time for bed.
After all, how could you not drink when you were born in England and are also Irish? You have to respect the folklore, after all.
There are some great documentaries about him where he opens up about himself and life in general.
One day, a doe will come and bite your ear too, once you’ve become the star of your nursing home.
You’ll get a taste of that budding glory.

Did have a run in with a doe once .......... 90 plus up the A38 at Milbury Heath .......... Bloody thing runs out just in front of me ........ Must have been a doe as it`s fawn followed just behind ....... ( not a hind ...... ) ..........

Luckily for me , I avoided a collision .......... Otherwise I could well have ended up in a nursing home , dribbling into my cocoa .........


Still get a three figure wiggle on nearly every day travelling up and down that straight ....... Chances are it won`t happen again , right ? ......... :) .............


( Bloody clock still reading in kph ..... must get it fixed one day .......... ) ................

Frank Zappa! 'Catholic Girls' springs to mind.

The radio people must be a very conservative bunch, as they nearly always play the same tracks fom particular artists and never the more obscure or long tracks.
When was the last (or even the first) time that anything from Pink Floyd Ummagumma album was played on air? A bloody brilliant album (and a bit off the wall) but not 'commercial'. No wonder pirate radio took off.

I was in my early teens. My brother came home with a Frank Zappa album, with 'Catholic girls' on it. That tickled me; I'd never heard anything like it.. "with a tongue like a cow, she can make you go wow"... :ROFLMAO::ROFLMAO::ROFLMAO:
