Need a favour from someone in Melbourne

Hi. I'm in Hobart and I'm considering buying a used bike (not a Laverda) from a seller in Melbourne. It's actually located in Brighton so I'm hoping a forum member lives nearby. I was wondering if someone could go and check it out for me, subject to the seller's consent. So far I've only communicated with the seller through the BikeSales website. I don't know his phone number street address yet but as soon as I have that info I'll pass it on to the lucky volunteer.

I'm not after a technical assessment. Basically all I need is confirmation that the sale is legit and the bike actually exists as described. I'm perhaps being a bit over-cautious, but I know someone who paid a deposit for a bike that appeared to be a legitimate online sale only find out it was a scam. The seller disappeared in a puff of virtual smoke after he'd received the money. There's probably some legal recourse if that happens, but who needs the hassle?

Cheers,
Cam

Can do Cam…….well as long as it ain’t a Hog!

If it is a hog thing, take a leather vest with you…. it’ll give some street cred 🤮

What’s with hogs and leather vests? I don’t understand it. Let alone the blokes that pick up embroidered patch’s from tourist information shops or Sovereign Hill and sew them on their leather fucken vests, reminds me of a caravans back window covered in tourist stickers ….. I don’t need to know you crossed the fucken Nullarbor dickhead!

Thanks Hooksey, I'll send you a DM. Don't worry, it's not a Hog. It's a Zero - an electric bike. Thought it might be a good thing for nipping about town especially given the way fuel prices are going. My brother has an earlier model Zero and it's surprisingly good ride.

What 'ave you got against Hogs, Prez? I know of several occasions where you've enjoyed their finer points!! I'd have offered to help out but I don't have a running moto and am currently in bed with a shitful flu. And driving to Brighton would be very low on my list of fun activities. The diesel is getting a lot of rest ATM. I could cycle down there ... but could be a while before this bug is exorcised from my body and I can exercise again.

Kawasaki E bikes sitting on the floor at work, nobody wants them! Around $8k, look like a ninja 300. Range is shitful though, only good for zipping into town. These are the ones where you lift the battery pack out and charge it

Yes, I'd had a look at the Kawasaki electric bikes and dismissed them as little more than kids' toys. The Zero is a more serious bike, pretty much an electric equivalent of something like a Yamaha WR450. Specs are 45kw (60HP), 160kph top speed, 200km range and it weighs 140kg.

Not quite as serious as the Australian made Savic electric bike - 80kw (107HP) motor, 200kph, 220km range and weighing 230kg. That's a beast of a thing. Too big for what I'm after.

I want something that'll keep me riding into my dotage. Something I can pick up if I drop it when I'm 80 years old. That's only 5 years away.

Check out this 80 year olds Jota tribute trike!

Groceries up front and a couple of cases of beer out back to help with wheelies to impress the chicks!

I believe the Steam Racket's Manannan 'fast' craft, that originated in Tasmania, is due to be replaced soon. I'm sure it will be available at a bargain price if you want to run your own service....

I think that Tassie High Speed Cat sells a lot of ships to the US Navy.
They've just built the world's largest fully electric ferry, huge thing that will carry 225 cars and over 2,000 passengers. It's waiting for the ship that will transport it to its new owners in S America to get out of the orange boy's Dire Straits. That must be one BIG ship!
