New owner of a laverda Atlas 600 OR

I have a couple of series 2 bikes, neither are in such good condition as yours appears to be.
They are pretty good bikes for pottering about on country lanes, and the odd excursion onto a green lane, but being top heavy, and hard work to pick up, i tend to avoid serious off road riding.
Cold starting can sometimes be an issue as is an annoying flat spot around 4000rpm. It’s apparently a common problem with the carb that’s fitted, even car owners with them fitted suffer from the latter problem. I gather it can be improved and the one I bought more recently is better than the other.
Obtaining Spares, can be a bit of a difficulty, but as the engine is the derivative for the Zane 650/668 engine, a few parts, such as starter clutch, are interchangeable.
As for desirability etc, they are not the most popular bike in the Laverda range, well not in the UK. Probably not orange enough 😜
Whatever, I hope you aren’t disappointed with your acquisition.

Hi Andy J
Thanks for the info.
It’s a motorcycle so it’s never a disappointment. I have a little 250 Honda for off road, this bike will just be used for a bit of a bimble along the country lanes where I live ( North Yorkshire)
Thanks again
John.

Hi John, the Atlas is the best Laverda for touring to me, I covered many km on various ones.
Looking at the plastic parts, it is not one of the last, 3rd, series.
I am curious to know frame number, the highest number I came across is 1452, built in 1989 or 1990, I forgot.
You can get issues with starter clutch, running on 2 tiny roller bearings.
If starting is a problem, change idle jet to a bit bigger one.
Cheers Robert

They don't have 3 cylinders and a Jota badge.

Hi Robert.

There are a few in the UK, (10 maybe?) and I have known several continental riders who have done huge touring distances, one is/was a middle aged couple, and there is even one with leading links and a sidecar!

just fell in and a big hello from me to Robert as well (formerly of Eindhoven?, been in Thailand for a while possibly)
one thng to remember here is that car type twin choke carb has two very odd shaped unequal rubber inlet manifolds, and they perish, this can cause flat spots and hard starting, and will sometimes show as a tickover that cannot be slowed down, those manifolds are simply not available, and even if someone found some new old stock, I doubt that even then, they would be usable, so be very carefull with them, I know of one Norwegian owner who has converted to seperate Dellortto PHF's due to rotten inlet manifolds, but it hardly shows when you look and was found due to a total strip down.

Hi everyone, just collected a red Atlas from Germany.
I know nothing about them, any tips for ownership and light recommissioning.
Hello Florence
I've just bought a red Atlas same as yours.
It appears it's very rare first model produced exclusevly for Switzerland.
Can you please share your frame number.
My Atlas is 1236.
It's missing some parts and I search for them if anyone can help - seat, side panels. The carburetor with intakes also missing but I plan to install two carbs.
