Optimum number of bikes ?

n + 1 is a popular miscoception, it is much more complicated than that but can easily be represented by n + x.

n= number of existing motocycles and parts there of.
x= A variable which can be positive or negative, and rarely a whole interger.

Currently my "n" is approximately 7.85 motorcycles, my "x" is in negative teritory just now, any one want to buy a 750 Paso?

Lost count of the # of bikes I've had in the garage during the 70's and into the 80's.

I kept that 70 750 SFO to the very end.

you can never have to many bikes , when people come along and offer you the chance to resue some poor old nail then some times it not only the riding but the looking and caressing but dont let the wife find out or its back to holding hands and all that malarkey :P

an MV Turismo Veloce (or similar), 180 Lav, and something interesting built either around a 750 Lav or a more modern parrallel twin.  8)

Hmm ...  MV Turismo Veloce eh?

I'd not considered one of those. I was thinking along the lines of a Ducati Multistrada 1200 or KTM Adventure 1190 for my next bike.

The MV is a nice looking jigger, and a bit smaller and lighter than the Ducati or KTM. I'm in Melbourne next weekend. I'll see if I can blag a test ride from one of the shops.

Go and see John at A1 in Ringwood. He has plenty of MVs and is a Laverda man too.

You only need 1 motorcycle... for the type of riding you do, so:

Vintage MX'er
Post Vintage MX'er
Vintage Flattracker
Dual Sport
Enduro / HS
Vintage Street (OK, I have 2 of those)
Vintage Project
Sport Tourer (next purchase)

Hi Ally et el

Interesting question, I've been up to 6 functional bikes and found things to be unmanageable with limited space and time to ride them all.
Currently I'm own three functional bikes 2x HD's- 1995 1340 EVO and a berserker 2016 Dyna Low Rider S 1800, plus my cherished Harris Laverda. This collection I find a good mix of personalities for what ever the occasion maybe.
There are three perhaps four additional bikes I like to add to the stable, I know what I said earlier but hey you all know how things are and retirement is on the horizon. Silver, rear drummed, humped seat Lav triple plus a Moto Martin CBX plus a road going XR69 and a B40 for the back of a camper van.

My wife is for warned and cash waiting............ Dangerous hey ?

                                                Cheers
                                                      Matt

I'm at 9. Unmanageable - not enough time for satisfactory tinkering and riding, both of which are important to me. I'm in the process of selling the more boring generic Honda stuff as they are just in the way now.

It has got to be double figures! I'm at 10, the latest one makes me smile the most but is the slowest and most needy! 1926 BSA, gas powered lights, ideal!
