nice early bike , cant see the number very well but if its 1189 then I would suspect it was 1968, an overall picture and more information would confirm.

I have a couple or 3 GTs in various sates of disrepair kicking about.
To complete what Marnix says, do not link what's on or in the bikes with the numbers. There is very little relationship between the two.

Yes, Brian's GT, 1189. Gremica hubs. Rubber bung in the headlight with Laverda cast into it. Not sure the plastic choke lever is correct. Rear sprocket is shagged, should it have tab washers? Rear guard has been cut down with an angle grinder, shame.

Looks bang on to me , has it got a breather hole in the fuel cap and has it got springs/ clips holding the tank on?
My ‘69 GT still had original front tyre and the Regina chain when I got it back in ‘89 ,almost as good as this one but it had been painted black and seat recovered badly. This is a peach!

Choke lever "should" be alloy, but wtf...

Sprocket should have tab washers, but Loctite works just as well. Please inspect the rear wheel bearings closely, and their bosses. Hubs are prone to cracking and/or losing the interference fit for the bearings. They can be a bloody can of worms!

There are slight internal engine differences, but as long as the owner doesn't intend to take to the track with it, "upgrades" really aren't necessary. Drop me a line when you get around to splitting the crank, there's a real, mostly overseen pitfall in there!

Bike looks like a nice enough project to me, shame about the rear guard though.

Grimeca drums (often) came with fairly expensive double row ball bearings. No problem to get them though.

I ended up putting a double row bearing in, but I could no doubt have searched some more. I stopped off at my local bearing shop in pre internet days.

Hoping to not get down to the crank Piet! This bike was running, just noisy. So the owner wants to do maintenance stuff first.

Emailed JLO re number,think he must have viewed the post, .Response interesting,

"Interesting as this bike is right through an American Eagle batch (at least as described by Jack McCormack when I was in contact with him years ago). And the frame doesn't seem to have the small holes for the rivets holding the special McCormack ID plate..."
