Overhaul Blog, 1968 750 GT

Found where all the spiders went. Cute little carbys. Will need full kits. Hope Wolfgang has an air filter. Do these early 750's take NGK b9es? Got 7's at the moment.

Tappet adjuster covers are tapered, unlike the sf2. One fitted upside down, but which one?

Have I just found the tapping noise it got sidelined for?

Drained the oil, only 1.5 litres came out.

Should be able to get a foam filter that fits around the metal frame Marty.
I use B8es in the AE same as in the triple, seem to work fine.

As per 2nd pic......(More room at the top)

Could have killed 2 birds, I went to Unifuilter up at Summerby at the top of the Old Rd for a foam air filter for the Atlas last week. They made it for me while I waited.

Wolfgang has/had sponge airfilter kits. I have this choke lever available if suitable and required. NOW SOLD , thanks.

Funnily enough, the tappet cover that was upside down, ie, wide part to the bottom, is the one that didn't get smacked. Other 3 have witness marks.

Turning the motor over by hand, I am getting 2 big clicks from the top of the motor, cam halves have come loose. Time drop the motor and take the top off.

Yep, 2 big clicks (kinda out of sync with engine rotation} is the cam joint. The valve springs supply the force for the sudden movement and thus the click.

Heaps too much feeplay side to side in the tappets, so multiple head issues. The "restorer" back in the US seems to have had a dislike of washers, nuts and bolts assembled everywhere have bitten into and damaged the alloy. The rear brake arm worries me deeply.

Exhaust gaskets not sealing at all, sucking oil down the guides.

The top engine bolts don't line up. DPO has elongated the holes in the frame. OMG.
