Petrol tank rust removal

The things mothers do to kids eh? My mum used to give us a spoonful of cod liver oil every morning. I would have traded that foul stuff for malt in a heartbeat. At some stage she switched to some kind of cod liver oil emulsion that was supposed to be more palatable. It wasn't.

My mother would feed us Syrup like Malt as kids to beef us up, hard to believe but I was a fussy eater and skinny as hell. That Malt was the most DISGUSTING shit I have ever tasted, the thought of it still makes me gage.
I buy tins of malt extract and have a big spoonful now and then - love it!! Cod fukken liver oil every morning??!! You have to be kidding me!

They drink cod liver oil by the tanker load had here in Norway, swear by the stuff, it is called "tran". It comes also in lemon flavour and capsules. I can't stand it, like he said, burping fish-oil rust preventer all day. Probably comes from the old anti scurvy sailing ship days.

Cod liver oil is rich in Vitamin A. I don't think it would help with scurvy. You need Vitamin C for that.

I think Vitamin A is supposed to be good for vision and the immune system. I have no idea why mothers insisted on feeding it to kids when I was a nipper. I guess it was thought to be beneficial at the time.

You can overdose on the stuff though. Then your skin falls off. Sir Douglas Mawson famously OD'd on Vitamin A by eating dog livers. The soles of his feet came off when he was trekking hundreds of miles across Antarctica on his own after losing his two comrades.

My outwardly pretty nice looking 3C had serious rust in tank. Bought sight unseen. Didn't ask obvious question. My bad. Surprised it ran far enough to inspection for title. Fuel was literally brown and contained abundant solids. I ended up going the physical route by partially filling it with nice sharp 'drywall' screws. Wrapped in shipping plastic, then blankets. Shoved into tumbler (borrowed cement mixer) for many hours. Probably not the best for tank with thin spots, but came out clean.

Main reason was actually prevention of rickets through high Vitamin D content (plus good marketing, as always). Vitamin D ist still given to babies nowadays by adding to formula or given as tablets or liquid.

Older people are also supplemented in vitamin D. I take my 80 000 UI of vitamin D every 3 months.

What do you do? Fill a bowl with capsules and sit there shovelling them in with a spoon?
Or maybe stick them in a hamburger bun. Would you like fries with that sir?

My doc said I should take Vitamin D after I turned 60. My dosage rate is similar, but a little more spread out over time. I take it as 1000 UI per day rather than sit down to a meal of pills 4 times a year.

To return to removal of rust...I did the citric acid thing for 24 hours at a ratio of about 1:20 by weight - positive results but I wasn't convinced it was good enough so bought Caustic Soda, made up Sodium Hydroxide, filled the tank, set up an electrode and hooked it up to a battery charger. 24 hours later a much bigger haul of particles - see photos. All in all very happy with the result. So thanks all for the advice.
