The case shape wasn't changed... at least not on purpose. The sprocket covers tend to warp and distort in that area, especially if they have been slotted for a long clutch lever. Has always puzzled me too, can't see an apparent reason! I'm suspecting the clutch actuation to bend the cover, the cover is for a large part unsupported.

October last year, seeming im home instead of riding, might even get it going. Every time i look at it i find more problems.

You know what I reckon Marty, that bike has thrown a chain, its jammed up real bad in the crankcase and forced the top of the crankcase up, bet you find some scars in there when you remove the outer case.

. get some heat into it and give it a rapp!
drive chain has broken in the past and punched the case up, seen and repaired heaps of those issues

I had one break out completely and it bent the shaft, making the time taken to find, refit the chain a total waste, was stuck in top gear, thia was a 2am in France on Autoroute du Sud, the chain was a new Regina copper plated job and had done less than 300 miles, right side of bike was covered in copper filth, not a happy bunny, the old knackered chain, would probably have lasted the trip to Bol D'or and back!
my moto now is don't mess with the bike less than two weeks before a long trip.

What an absolutely crap chain that must have been, Clem - I'd be suing Regina after that episode!! I'm assuming the only way a chain can break is if the plate escapes the rivets and heads sideways?

this was years ago, and at the time, I was seriously pissed off, but experience has taught me that some legal fights are fraught with variables that the mis doer will always exploit, like, was it lubed, was it too tight, was the alignment correct etc, it must have been a faulty chain, because the above was all spot on, and the side of the bike was covered in copper filth, the copper plated ones didnt get made for very long, that might say it all, and chains generally are now 100's of times better than circa 80/82 ish.
