Rear sprocket

As I said earlier a nice compromise between weight and longevity. Q let us know if you find out costs including shipping. I wonder how the fit would be on a spoked Laverda wheel
 
Mine would be for either a Triumph Legend or Kwaka Z1000 spoked hub. Have sen similar advertised in Oz I reckon but was very pricey - the Polish variant looks as good but far cheaper - gotta love the ex eastern bloc!
 
I don't remember the original sprocket having a 2 piece arrangement, it's the thickness and bolt protrusion and bolt location where the alloy and steel bolt up on a spoked hub that was my concern. There is a pic of one on a cast wheel so that works fine, are the spoked hubs the same thickness, don't know.
 
Then if the Supersprox company has the inner part dimensions reference they could supply any variant of 520, 530, 630 and tooth count on demand?

Sounds like I should supply the dimensions for the Grimeca 5 stud drum hub to get the same options for the older 750s instead of the pricey custom one offs for them or maybe they'd already have that as used on others like Ducati and Benelli?

Has anybody used them to supply into USA and able to tell us what is the rough cost delivered?
 
If my alloy sprocket doesn't wear well I'll definitely look into SuperSprox. Wonder how much shipping to Oz would deter me?!

The mounting face of the anodized alloy part of the sprocket is flush with the still chain ring - only difference is on the side you see - alloy part for the 530 pitch is slightly thinner than the toothed steel ring itself.
I'll take a photo and measure the thickness later today.

From the supersprox site - they say that you can have whatever combination - of course this would be limited to the physical dimensions.

Carrier is 6,85mm thick, mounting face is flush with the rear surface of the toothed ring.
Only small issue maybe the distance between the inner edges of the rivets (157mm) and the mounting surface hub diameter - anyone know what the hub diameter is (1000 3CL series 1 - thin web FLAM)?

Shame they can't use a countersunk head on the inside rivet. I don't think Lav owners are going to want to remove metal from their sprocket carriers to clear the rivet head.
 
I wouldn't be surprised if they can use countersunk rivets on request. Rivet heads fouling the hub is unlikely be a problem only isolated to Laverdas. Even if they can't, you shouldn't have to remove much metal from the hub. Just mill out pockets large enough to accommodate the rivet heads.

I'd have thought there would be an advantage in using bolts rather than rivets to hold the two parts together. Then you could easily replace the outer sprocket ring when it wears out, without having to junk the whole sprocket assembly.

Sorry but I think this is one for the 'solution in search of a problem' pile. It seems a needless complication especially if you can't replace the outer sprocket part independent of the inner (due to being riveted). With modern chains running minimal lubrication, a decent hard anodised aluminium rear sprocket lasts very well indeed and is lighter.

Interesting product, I'm just not so sure of it's need. Didn't this type of split sprocket comea long for the 916-series Ducatis because the cush drive was integral to the sprocket and hence sprockets were quite elaborate and hence expensive and hard to get? The split sprocket allowed you to replace the chain ring independent of the cush drive part.
 
I can give you a better example of a rear sprocket solution looking for a problem.

I remember looking at a mate's Ducati Monster a few years ago and it had a sprocket that was a toothed ring bolted to a carrier, but the ring itself was a 2-piece affair - as in 2 x C shaped rings, or sprocket halves. It was a new bike but I dunno if the sprocket was original fitment. The owner was the sort of bloke who bought every bit of aftermarket bling available for his bikes, so it could well have been an accessory part. The join on each side was in the bottom of the valley between the teeth (I wonder if that meant you could only use even numbered teeth). I guess that setup would have the advantage that it could be removed/installed without having to take the rear wheel out. I didn't think much of the idea.
 
I was watching Sammy Miller talking about rebuilding 7R and it had exactly that double C shaped rear sprocket fitted.

 
Could be worse, could be integral with the rear brake drum like my Velocette! It even has a strange arrangement of captive studs from the inside with tapered pins retaining them - just to make it extra-difficult to replace. Mad buggers. :D Apparently common to machine the sprocket off when worn and shrink fit a chain ring on, but still a pretty major palaver.
In spite of being bigger / heavier / more powerful / more complex / etc, Laverdas are MUCH easier to work on!
