Rear wheel with rotor brake substitute

I inherited a 1976 3CL a with a proper alloy rear wheel, but it has a wire wheel on the front. Options are to:
a) leave it as is,
b) proper alloy on front to make spec,
c) non-OEM--find a wire rear wheel, but keep the rotor, (I wouldn't want a rear drum wire like previous versions).
I like wire wheels, (option c )so question ....
Does anyone know of a rear wire wheel with rotor that would substitute and come close to fitting the 3CL?

Laverda's rear drum brake was better than their later disk in my opinion. The disk can be made to work with a bit of tweaking though.
Red might have an alloy front wheel, or know where to find one. He's replaced a few with Suzuki wheels.

I have a Brembo w/ rear disc on now and it works ok, not as good as a newer bike though.
I'd like to keep the front wire wheel for now if I can and find a rear wire.
(I had heard there is an alloy Suzuki wheel that fits the front but I don't know the version.)

You should talk to Helen at Thredbo, she had an SF3 with alloy wheel up front and spoked rear. Dunno where she is these days though?
 
No shortage of thick web ally rims CK. Spoke rear hub would be much harder to find but they are out there.
I just picked up a spoke hub from a GS1000 suzuki late 70s era,.
 
I've done two conversions with Kawasaki Z1000 rear hubs (and know of one other). Very strong hub, unbreakable - but requires a 20mm axle (easy job to file out the swingarm axle slot and chain tensioners). I was also able to use the Kawasaki disc rotor carrier and the Brembo M6 bolt pattern fitted with a very small (maybe 0.5mm) filing of the holes in the carrier - can't guarantee alignment with std Brembo rear caliper mount, but disc could be spaced; I made up my own floating carrier. Having said that, I think these hubs are rarer than rocking horse shaez! The Suzuki conversion is probably more common - but I'll hazard a guess that these are also very hard to come by.

For the SFQ I scored a Triumph Legend 900 rear spoked wheel complete. Very nice hub but had to do some major metal removal from the sprocket carrier to reduce the wide chainline. Another option is a Kawasaki KLR650 rear hub - I scored one of these for $120 from a wrecker and it has the 17mm axle. Lighter and probably strong enough, being a dirt bike wheel. I was going to use that until the Legend wheel came up, complete with 17x4.25" Akront alloy rim. A Moto Officina rear spoked hub/wheels costs about as much as a decent SF!!
 
Hmm, from what you guys have encountered, I'm beginning to think option b, front alloy, might be the lesser of two evils.
 
You have to love spoke wheels and be willing to pay a little - helps to have a lathe. And I can drill my own rims and build my own wheels. I think there's a reason all the manufacturers went to cast wheels!
 
SFC1000 wire rear hub will drop straight in and accepts the cush drive as well as the standard Brembo rotor.

THAT is rocking horse poo... ;)

The wire front wheel is worth good money and thick web fronts aren't difficult to find, it's the thin webs that are rare because they get damaged easily.

Yes Jim, that's what I was asking in the original post. Re-reading it (my option c ) it does sound like I want to use the existing disc, but I meant to say as you suggest, a wheel as complete as possible.
 
The only Laverda wheel that is spoked and carries a disc that I am aware of is an SFC wheel. They are very difficult to obtain and will likely cost mucho dinero.
I am not sure what other options are available but I do recall that someone made a wheel from an early GS Suzuki work and if I recall the photos it looked quite good. I do hope that someone who knows more will fill in with the required information.
