RGS front brake master cylinder

I think Clem is just trying to point out that your fears may be unfounded. The forces exerted by a human hand on a brake lever are insignificant c/w those that other welded parts of machines have to carry. I can understand your concern, which is why I get critical welding done by experts.
 
It would be fine getting it welded up by an expert but unfortunately I don't know any locally, so just for peace of mind I prefer to go down the path by replacing the item.
Certainly not showing any disrespect or questioning anybody on the forum.
 
Very strange, have just taped the piston out of the broken m/c and measured the diameter, 16mm; would have thought that the different sizes of m/c related to the bore diameter.

Terry, the after market rectangle master cylinder on my 3cl with 4 spot brembos is 16mm and has a great feel on metalgear stainless discs.
Maybe your master cylinder had been bored and up-sized in a previous life  :o
 
Seems the case Hooksey, the m/c did come from an RGS that had signs that it may have been raced, (drilled drain plug etc.) The bike in particular is now in use as a race bike by a fellow forum member.
Might be able to fit an easily obtainable 15mm m/c and not note any difference.
