RGS Indicator question

He said if he disconnects the relay the lights still on but the indicators then dont work
Then he disconnected all the dash and ran one wire light still on So relay out of play

So I’d suggest you have another circuit using going to ground so something else must still have been connected Did you have the speedo cable still connected as that would provide an earth return

Shouldn’t be too difficult to work out where the leakage is by a simple voltage drop test as something is clearly following the path of least resistance in this case the indicator circuit

Also those printed circuits used on the clusters suffer from time and can become brittle so it’s possible its in the circuit tape

Good 👍

Thanks for all the helpful replies.

I have ended up with three indicator flasher units (had two and found another from a long ago project in the "spares" drawer). They all get the same result so I can confidently exclude the flasher unit.
Speedo cable isn't connected, I've been checking all earths and now the light still comes on with the single wire connected but not that bright.
I don't believe it is the instrument cluster either as I have two (one brand new), again same result. I have the fairing and tank off and the instruments sitting in a cardboard support so easy to swap out.
I'll keep chasing it and report back...

Do you know what the specs are for the flasher relay? Maybe it’s doing what it’s meant to, although it seems odd, or have you got something similar to a VisiBike relay wired in somewhere..?
If you’re in Ak I could give you a hand if you like.
Hi Andy, thanks for the offer but I'm down in the Wairarapa.
I don't have anything not stock in the system except for a replacement ignition. I've installed a DMC/32

may be it is a mass issue and the electric, not electronics, is not completely installed, so the current is going faulty ways. Sometimes all is all correctly connected but by activating the brake, the flashers give light???
That has crossed my mind and I have gone and connected everything and correctly (well I think I have anyway). No joy.

Ok, it IS the indicator relay. My mate the electrical engineer came around tonight and got as confused as I have. So we dismantled two of the relays and tested the other two based on what we learned.
Seems not all relays are created equal despite what they are supposed to be.
So we got the original the came with the bike working (well sort of) and had no light issues. One of the others was just stuffed although we could make it work by hand and the other two where the wrong spec.
So I need another new Relay.
I have contacted Wolfgang as I need another couple of things as well.
cheers
Tony

Great it turned out something simple... The relay contacts have numbers normally on them. if you find a relay from a car that has the same numbers and is arranged the same way, that should work fine.
