Rgs Rear Shocks

Still working like new after about 30k ks so am still happy with them. But I'm no road racer to say the least. I don't even bother upping the pre-load when I go camping with loads on the back. Haven't ridden with any other shocks so wouldn't know if they were good or not but they seem to work just fine, no bouncy bouncy or hopping that I can tell. Have heard good reports on the Gazi ones as well and they are a bit cheaper. They were going to be my next try but that hasn't been necessary yet :)

edit: Be prepared to get rubbished by those with unlimited budgets who expect no less than Ohlins or YSSs to be acceptable into the 'knowledgeable club'......you know who you are and will see you at tonight's meeting.... :D :D

I've got YSS shocks on my Ducati. They were quite pricey compared with Ikon. I think they're pretty good, but maybe that's only because they're so much better than the old knackered Marzocchi Stradas that were on there before, which had no damping at all. When I got the YSS shocks properly adjusted it was a whole new experience just to have a rear tyre that stayed in contact with the road  :D

PS: Getting rubbished by folks for whom money is no object is of little relevance to me. Why own a $1,470,000 Aurora Diamante fountain pen when a $1 Bic will do the job?

When I had the 25mm longer tops added to my Icons the shock bloke did his thing by upping the oil weight and I think played with the shim stack, but don't quote me on the later. Before that I needed No3 on the damping to stop it wallowing. Now I use No 1 and it holds a line well on the local goat tracks. For the money I am a happy camper.Costs can go nuts on suspension real fast.I remember there was a tread a while back where someone found a supplier of basic non piggyback Olines for a bit less than a grand.I think they were local to Sweden, don't remember any other info.

Had Ikons on my RGS for a few years now, before that Konis. The ones I have are the old fashioned steel bodied models with the stepped preload adjuster, not the fancy aluminium ones with the thread adjusters. Seem to work well, no wobbles, no complaints, have the damping set on #3.

ditto, can't stand the threaded adjusters....

Just got my WP shock back from a Qld shock repair mob for a service. The top mount bushings were changed from an M12mm mounting bolt hole to an M10 and the lower which was 1/2" is now M12 and 1.5mm wider so won't fit in the shock rocker mount for the rising rate suspension. What really worries me is that the idiot who changed the bushings is probably the same idiot that had my shock apart for the service.
So much for fitting the spring and bolting it in place!!. More fucking delays. You were right Red, they have probably fucked my shock up too.

Hi,
my experiencies about shocks were.
I used Konis in my RGS and the 1000 SFC bike since years and finally i would say they are the best regarding price and performance. Don?t know whether the IKONs are the same.
In my racing SFC I have a pair of ?hlins which are really very fine but expensive.
Once a set of Konis became leaking I ordered the YSS, adjustable classic style. I never had a good feeling with them. After pain in my back I sent them back and the dealer made an adjustment of the damping and a set of softer springs. But they are definitively worse than the Konis. I?m not happy with the YSS at all. As much I turn the adjustments I do not feel any change. I thing there is no good damping behavior.
In my opinion to expensive and bad performance, scrap!!
For my new race bike I ordered a set of Wilbers and the did it according my spec., weight, geometry at a standard price. They are adjustable and work well. I can recomend.
All my shocks have a length of 380 mm which give a better steering angle and more ground clearence. The Konis i changed by putting an adapter ring of 20 mm under the bottom eye.
Don?t know about the others Bitubo- they look fine, or WP.
Regards
Andre

Thanks Andre

I think I'll give the Ikons a try. It seems they provide good performance at a reasonable price.

Don't give up on the YSS Andre. It sounds like they need a different damper valve. With the YSS shocks on my Ducati, I sent them back to the dealer twice before he got the set-up within a useable range. They were way too stiff when I first tried them, and I couldn't dial them to an acceptable damping rate with the click adjusters. He changed the damber valves twice and the springs once. They're now excellent.

Cheers,
Cam

Tell you what eminem, how abouts I lend them to you till I need them for the SF3 which may never happen......:)

Better go check they aren't rusty...... :o

edit: there you go they are even old enough to be Koni branded rather than Ikon although they were bought from the Ikon blokes. Good as new:-

Drikko, I've got the exact same Koni's on the Jota 120! They work really well.
