four points of contact are required without gaps.
bend the spring to fullfill that and then set the adjustment.
Did so on my bike and everything is great.
Thanks Hans, will give it a go - would be a bit nervous bending the spring though - did you warm it up first? Or just room temperature?
 
Yes, I have been thinking about it, you need to hold the spring open enough so you can squeeze it closer at its root and not twist it out of square. Add to that not adding a stress raiser to the spring doesn't break a few months later. Not as simple as you might think errrrr, got any bent springs for sale errrrr Red pretty please?
 
I think the 'grind-a-groove' method is easier on the twins as the fork assembly has a bigger gap between spring separator and eccentric. But one of the benefits is that the groove holds the spring legs in place so they can't edge inwards and block the travel.
