Evening all.
No rush on these, but planning on changing a track bike to road legal so could do with the following

Lights
Side stand
Instrument binnacle

So true.

Sorry what I meant to say is,

Welcome to the forum, best when asking for parts to give people a bit more to go on  ::)
Where you are from on the planet is always a good start.....
Pictures are also good, but good luck trying to get them to load....

There are plenty of people here to help you, some even have parts.

All the best
Tom

How are you off for socks and underwear? :)

I believe one other aspect of this question is he is asking what year and model SF are you referring to ...... as the socks and underwear have "changed" from year to year ..... unlike some members of this forum who change their socks and underwear from month to month.

Most sincerely
Jim

Are you hoping to count rivets and fit said rivets as required (ie do you want to make it a 'standard' bike) or are you happy to save yourself a huge load of cash and use alternatives from other bikes/sources. For eg, i used a std H4 headlight insert in a Kawasaki Z1 headlight shell - they're also rare and expensive now, but there are plenty of similar alternatives out there ... ditto decent headlight brackets.

Morning all,

for some context, subject to confirmation it's an 1972(?) SF2 based track bike, but I think it's a bit of a mishmash, currently on a fact finding mission about it.

based in Midlands UK, have just tried to upload pics but way too big so will reduce size this evening.

the instruments i'm after are speedo/tacho, it has a tacho fitted at present but it's non-standard and isn't secured.

Could be a 72 SF, not SF2.
Are frame and engine numbers matching?
In any case, 72 would be numbers between 7 or 8000 and 13000 or thereabouts.
Instruments would have been ND. Laverda specific, Honda ones have a different drive ratio.

Hi Paul - details I had given before they were shipped  are engine 750-8879 frame DGM59640M.

They landed late on Tuesday night in lockup, due to lockdown I've not been able to confirm the frame number as I've been advised it doesn't look correct.

Are you sure the speedo is Laverda specific Paul? I?ve fitted both a Yamaha and Honda speedo to my Egli which has a Laverda front hub fitted with speedo drive gears for ND and both those speedos have read accurately.

Looking at the racer's exhaust - the side stand lug may have been cut off the frame? Not sure about a ND Honda speedo -the Honda tacho isn't right for a Laverda. Notice it has a standard front brake - was it raced with that?? - Regards - Phil

If stand lugs are cut off it would be better to use an SFC type centrestand with lugs to suit, for more ground clearance with the pipes tucked in under. It will be hard to fit a side stand if you keep the 2 into 1.

True - but I grafted a triple stand on to mine - works a treat and uses a useless (on the triples) stand! - Regards - Phil

If you start casting doubts Norman!
But yes, the speedo is specific. One is 3/1 drive, the other 4/1. Can never remember which is which.

50 side stands along with starter motors are in unobtanium land.
Probably because the tang breaks if the bike falls over. I probably have 7 or 8 750 frames, some in running bikes and probably 3 side stands.

I have 1 spare starter motor for personal use but a few dynamos. Because starter motors spun to 50 000 revs by a neglected starter freewheel, implode.

Yes - I tracked down the chap in Ontario and he advised it was underbraked, especially as the power unit has been "breathed on":) :)

I fear I must cast doubt Paul. I?m sure Laverda 750 Revcounter drive is 3/1 which may be unique for ND instruments but was used in Smiths instruments for certain bikes such as BSA A65. Laverda front  wheel gear sets for ND speedo are 25/9 which seems to work for most Japanese speedos - although I think the working ratio for the Japanese instruments  is usually expressed as a figure for revolutions per mile.
