SF for sale, USA

All well and good, Q, but TeddyG is in Portland, Oregon, and the bike is in Baltimore, Maryland, 4500 km. That's like Perth to Melbourne ++ and:eek:there is a shit load of snow and mountains between Teddy and the bike. As it sits, my offer would be tops $3k. There will be estate sales on the left coast, too, 'patience grasshopper.'
Good points, Dave. I'd buy an SF from Perth if someone I knew and trusted went to check it out. One of the Qld boys on here bought his SF sight unseen from over your way, imported it - turned out he got a bewdy.

Luck o' the draw I guess, but that SF2 does look in very orig nick - 'cept that godawful zorst!

Thanks for the input guys,

I've offered $3500 for it, but their lame excuse for not getting it running because "it's an off brand" concerns me. If it was running before being put away, gas and a battery should be all that's needed. So they're either too lazy or not being honest. If I could see the bike and inspect w a boroscope, that would be ideal. Perhaps some other Forum member w more nerve can pick it up for less- I'm passing on this.

Bob's is a good, honest store. They offer "Project" bikes that often don't run or have been sitting. They are a pretty busy shop and probably don't want to tie up their shop/techs on something unfamiliar lest the tech fuck something up they haven't dealt with before. I'm pretty sure I met the previous owner at a bike show about 10yrs. ago, and he seemed to be a knowledgeable sort. Maybe they'll come down if it sits long enough. I'll pity whoever has to dispose of all my stuff when I croak. I have an "Off Brand "collection of bikes in the garage. 3CL, MZ1000, Buell, Hinkley Triumph, etc.

Maybe wait for a few months and if it's kicking around in late spring offer them $2500. You'll have at least $1k getting it back to Oregon. I think passing on it for a while is a smart move........ but my advice is worth exactly what you paid for it ;)

Thanks again guys,
If they come back to me after not selling it, I will offer them $2500. I do want to rescue it, but not if the motor is toasted. Either their excuse for not starting it is honest, or there's something more they're not owning up to. They sent more pics including this one-

Old grumpy bum holding up the BM top box doesn’t look impressed.

I could be wrong, but it looks like it's missing the side stand, and if so probably because of the cobbled-up header pipes. A few years back I put a 74 SF2 back on the road that had a similar setup. The lug for the side stand had been cut off to accommodate the pipes.

From this photo it appears the side stand is there, but the foot tang has been cut off to clear the exhaust pipe
