SF1 front fender stays

My (bought new) SF1 had the solid mounted front mudgaurd brackets, Slaters suplied a kit to fit anti crush tubes and rubbers, washers etc, all I had to do was dril out the holes in the brackets, Marnix is correct disc braked ones = no good.

Will the solid one fit the SF1 from the parts book looks like a 2 piece set , if the set you have will fit mine where are you located and how much are you asking .
While no doubt you could make it work, they are not directly interchangeable.
The one piece mount as used on the 38mm forks of the disk brake models like the SF2 passes inside the fork legs where the mounting is flush with the inside of the lower tubes but the two piece mounts as used on the 35mm forks of the drum brake models mount on the outside of the lugs on the lower tubes which are centered on those legs.
However, if you were to make spacers and the rubber bushings to mount the later one piece it would probably be more durable than the solid mounted two piece original setup. If time permits in coming days I'll measure the two setups to assess if the existing holes spacing of the one piece mount will align on the drum brake fork tubes.

Mount the 2-part stays in rubber bushes and you'll soon be looking at fractured mudguard blades and mounting lugs...

Absolutely nothing wrong with the stock set-up, it's mainly butchery and worn out bikes that break the brackets.

I solved all that by having a set of leading links made, by one of my welders, who also made sidecar race chassis.

Here are some numbers for the two types:

35mm fork drum brake
holes in stays at leg mount point are 6mm, 20 mm vertically spaced and slightly elongated in direction of the stay, the holes in the fork leg are 6 mm at 20mm vert and 75mm hoz, the space between the legs is about 135mm with lower mount hole about 210mm above axle centre line.

38mm as with discs
holes in stay are 12mm for the rubber bushings, 20mm vert, 50mm hoz, the spacing of the fork tubes is about 145mm and the stay fills that gap with just enough clearance for the rubber bushings, the lower mount hole is about 220mm above the axle centre.

I did not try to fit the one piece stay between the 35mm forks, it would need to be squeezed about 10mm and the holes would not align.

The 35mm type pair of stays were used on all the non-GT drum brake models from S through to GTL so there should be some used ones around and with offers from Australia and France, I suggest you'd be better off using the original style rather than trying to fit the later one piece type.

Either way please note that the correct fitment is with "INOX" at the front, the front stay's lugs point back, the rear stay lugs point down, there are numerous bikes with this incorrect and then the gap to the tire and concentricity look all wrong!

Good news is that the fender/mudguard itself does seem to be the same on both types and its hole spacing fits both types of stay.

Hi , maybe this is what you are looking for. If yes, I am happy to mediate.

Hey Wim, That is exactly what I need but it does not seem like the ebay classified site is available to me. If Peter does not need this then I would like to acquire it. Are you willing to act on my behalf here?
Thanks!
Ian
