SFC 1000 production numbering

Hi Andy, the Corsa's I have seen selling (and they rarely do) were between 8.500 and 11.000 while the 1000 SFC over here sold at that time beyond 10.000 up to partly 13.000 already.

You know well that the 1000 SFC and Corsa engine are the same, right? So - what happened on the 1000 SFC could have happened on the Corsa, too. Absolutely no difference... If you will, the 1000 SFC has the Corsa engine. Difference to the standard RGS engine are just the big bore head and slightly higher compression - that's it. Both even have the standard F1 cam that was also installed on the standard RGS (P1 only for racing/as an upgrade).

When 1000 SFC production started, Corsas and other RGx models were rarely assembled though as they did not sell anymore; maybe because Uwe made so much fuzz around the 1000 SFC that no one tried to sell something else - who knows. But WHEN they were assembled, the Corsas had the same engines as the 1000 SFC, same carbs, same jettings, same exhaust (well - chrome against black paint, but else...). The differences were the externals, like the bodywork and footrests, rims, brake discs and suspension as well as the different instruments (OK - color of the frame, too...). Else they were technically quite the same.

that picture IS the CRosby Hotel Paul and the car on the right (white with poster) is my hire car (work commitments meant a fly in and fly out three days later trip) I ran the ILOC meeting there for many years and when there was no one prepared to do it, I reacted. don't forget that the factory built "replica's" as well, Corsa number 3124 was built as an SFC1000 and converted at the last minute for its Australian buyer into a Corsa, due to a communication error, as that was what he wanted, he toured Europe on it, then shipped it, (when a few weeks/months old) to Aus, so is it a genuine Corsa, or a clone?

Nice bunch of Laverdas, even a Cropredy Liberator! Never saw one in the flesh, allthough my bike also has that in the papers (Laverda 1200, model "Cropredy Liberator")

I never disputed that. I said that both, Cropredy AND Cico used 1200 side panels...

or to be more precise, I said that Cropredy simply used what Cico used and he prefered the 1200 side panels (and tanks). Conclusion: Cropredy also used the 1200 side panels 😘

Lothar, as you say engines were the same, but also as you say few Corsa were built near the end of Laverda production, mostly SFC1000. I am saying the earlier Corsa were better built as in my opinion the later bikes were almost like part bins specials put together by less motivated employees who knew the writing was on the wall regarding the company. However, that isn’t said with any intended offence to the guys and gals working in Breganze at the time.

I heard the other day someone has recently bought and imported a Cropredy Liberator to the island, so we now have one in permanent residence. Hopefully it will be out and about now the weather is improving.

If both bikes offered to you were roughly from the same time, the engines were done by the same people with the same attention (or lack of). If the Corsa was an early one and the 1000 SFC a late one, there might have been differences in quality of assembly - who knows. Rod failures happened though on ALL bikes, bearing failures, too. I have seen late 1000 SFC's covering 100.000km and more without decent issues. maybe really bad luck on yours?

I am not even going tpo mention the IOM
no need to be sore Lothar, in the UK its known as a piss take, only intended in fun

No where near soar, Clem, I really see all this (especially also the exchange with you) as a very respectfully intended discussion. We all have been involved in Laverda things since 20+, 30+ or even 40+ years (some maybe even 50+?) and there is a rich base of knowledge, experience and information here that thankfully, many are happy to share. This does not mean everyone is always correct. I am really happy to be corrected, as this improves my knowledge. I hope my contributions are taken similarely, just as a contribution on the way to the truth. ;-)

If sometimes my tone sound a bit harsh, I do appologize. Please take this as my lack of knowledge about the fine lines in your great language and not as an offense, please. I am not here to offend, I am here to learn and share what I learned. And sometimes for a bit of fun, too ;)

stop exagerating Lothar, I have only had Laverda's for 49 years, you must get your facts right

ps its another piss take

My SFC1000 was 3432, bought in NL in 1989.
A few years later I was in Mons(Bergen) Belgium at Enzo's, Laverda importer. He had a RGS 3452, claiming it was the last one. He bought the bike unfinished from the factory(Cooperativa by then).
Also he showed me a box; it contained a 3 cyl water cooled engine(named Laverda).
