SFC frame coating repair

I found these three to be the best match.

All very similar but for me the weicon turned out the best. I chose to match the patina as opposed to making it perfect. matches the other side pretty well. Only the left side needed to be addressed. Photo of right side is just for comparison.
Thanks very much to all for your input! I'm thinking that this approach may be the way I go for my frame coating repair! I like the patina as well!

After looking at the orange paint on the swingarm near the frame is peeling as well. Has there been a discussion on the forum about sources for matching the paint color?

Perfect, thanks again!

I'm eternally grateful to everyone for your help and input!

My goal has never been to restore the bike to showroom condition because it isn't a new bike, which is ultimately part of its appeal. It will get any replacement parts needed to make it run reliably, the aforementioned frame and paint touch-ups, and a thorough cleaning. I want to be able to ride it, not worry about bugs splattering on the windscreen.

Then all I need is to practice getting used to a riding position with my knees up by my ears!

Agreed but it really was stunning. A genuine SFC electronica, the only real thing I questioned was the painted finish on the frame as I thought it should just be galvanised but was told it had been restored with paint for practical purposes.
Very nice machine! It looks showroom-fresh. I was actually looking for the VIN plate on the frame. Would it have been removed for painting or did some year/series of the sfc not have one?

Wolfgang looked at photos of my frame and said it looks rough (which it does, in spots) He suggested that I have it bead blasted and recoated. As previously mentioned, I don't think I want to go that way. It's only original once!

Can't disagree! It's a beautiful machine and the decision to ride or display rests solely with Its owner!
Certainly, the owner can even grind it into small pieces and eat it.
But then we mustn't cry because we don't see and hear the contraptions running and can't afford them. Most people just admire the photos or grotty examples in glass cabinets in museums.

I prefer the smell of hot metal and oil. It's what it's all about.

I have to agree with you, Paul. But each to their own - I never want a museum piece. I don't give a rat's about originality either, my rivets are strewn across the Australian continent! But that's just me ...

Interesting reading on the paint codes!

I spoke with Wolfgang on Thursday (parts shipment on the way!)
Many parts I wanted are shipping, but he said that the alloy tanks won't be here until sometime in May.
He said his shipment is coming from Italy, and are pre-painted, but will need to be polished. I'm fine with that!
I noticed that all original fibreglas parts have number tags on their back sides. I think I read somewhere that these numbers correspond to paint batches. Does that sound right?
I noticed that my bike has 2 or 3 different numbers, but I can't see a lot of difference between the various pieces. Mainly, I suspect, because my parts all need a thorough cleaning/buffing.
I won't be repainting the parts to get a matching colour on all pieces, though, just giving them a good clean-up.

I'd be amazed if the factory were that organised 😁 Interesting theory, but there was no number on my tank. Don't know if it was original tho'.

Is that fuel / petrol tanks? Do you mean that they are sent as painted alloy? Are you wanting a bare polished finish then?

I think the VIN plate was applied to bikes exported to the US only.

Don't know why I'm talking about this - it's Marnix's job!
