SFC1000 mishap

This is what started the series of events which resulted in the rear disc breaking up. Broken return spring; the results could have been much more serious had the rear wheel locked up.

UR on the drugs Coz.  What do you call the spring inside every single master cylinder?
And most Lav triples also have an external helper return spring also, from memory the only one that doesn't is a right foot brake 180 for whatever reason.  With fairly complicated lever systems like the left brake 180s and RGS a positive return spring is essential to avoid exactly the situation described here.

That makes sense Davo. Presumably that spring disappears when rear-sets are fitted. My bike didn't have a spring when I bought it (rearsets installed by PO) but I found it needed one, which is why I fitted the spring shown in the picture attached to my earlier post.

No, maybe I need some  :D

I stand corrected, obviously there is a return spring in the mc, and yes the RGS has a external return spring its quite massive, but there are plenty of bikes that don't, mainly ones with modern mc's

Ok OK ,  im gonna go buy some fcking springs now

Seems you can actually buy aftermarket mods for the seemingly "shit" master cylinders that don't come equipped with one

Im glad I learnt something today, it was not wasted

Although I am still toying with a occy strap "SFC" type mod  :D

....so what about us poor bastards with a left foot 180 rear brake! Don't we need a spring..if not, why not? ???

Monty has an O ring looped around the top frame rail then round a bush on the inside end of the linkage bolt
where it passes through the rear master cylinder crank.
