Correct as usual (except about the whole bike market collapse thing)! Had to peek the address book-Phil's in the Stickney area, perhaps even closer to @stivesveloPhil left Whyteleafe over 25 years ago. As for Croydon, that was before.

Not seen one since the 1960s in the school woodwork shop, manual with a handle to get it going if I remember rightly ( probably not though). I could do with one to re-grind my wood chisels & plane irons without overheating them!I do mine on the side of a wet stone grinder (white wheel) and I use an old valve to hold the shim, a dob of oil/grease on the tip ensures that the shim rotates as you touch it on the side of the grinder, leaves a lovely "spoke like" pattern, but be carefull, easy to go too far, plus ALWAYS ensure the the pocket inside the shim is nice and flat, some are not pointed even and of course clean, at one time I did have a bolt on atatchment with a valve guide silver soldered to it to hold the valve, and keep it square, but the grinder went west and I lost the atatchment, hey ho!

Progress!!!When I talked to Ged Shorten last week he told me had bought all of Slaters shim stock. Don't expect him to part with them easily though unless you have a swop.
