Side Panels and Tail Piece for Auction - Greater London Area

I can’t understand why, when the seat pod and panniers clearly are part of the bike, they are being auctioned separately. Another bloody moronic decision imho. However, it’s not the time I’ve seen this happen with bikes at auctions.

At a £40 estimate, I’d buy them just to replace the broken hinge on one of my bags! Hell, the three badges cost more than that and the four hinges are unobtanium. It’s crazy they are selling the bags without the mounts to put them on a bike, I wonder if the mounts on the bike come with the keys?

I live locally and went along to the auction house today. The previous owner was apparently a hoarder and the bike was found under wraps at the back of a shed. It is in a very sorry state; I think the auction site photos are flattering. It needs a full restoration, however it is mostly complete. I didn't try and turn the engine over using rear wheel/gears. It was first registered in April 1987, however the engine number is 1822 which puts it (on JLO's site) as a 1983 bike. The Laverda bible says the Executive wasn't produced until 1984 with approximate engine numbers 2000 onwards, so I think this may have been retro-fitted with an Executive kit. The fuel tank is showing signs of quite a lot of rust around the bottom edges and inside the fuel filler neck area, and the auctioneer said there are no keys with it other than two ignition keys which I tested and they turned.

Overall it is generally original with the exception of the exhaust system and the missing tail seat-pad. It would be a shame to break for parts considering these points, however I just cannot see how it would be economically viable to restore unless it sells for the auction estimate.

Laverda bibles are written like general press articles.
Just copy what somebody else wrote before you.
That's how myths, and rumours are built.
Not many people have been to Breganze to meet the people originally concerned and even those informations need cross referencing. You'd be surprised at some of the stuff that comes out of the horses mouth.

I get that Paul and not trying to start a myth or rumour, however JLO's registry indicates that all but 1 Executive was produced from number 2294 in 1984 onwards. Maybe JLO can help confirm or deny? It doesn't help that only the US bikes were specifically marked with Executive VIN plates.

The Laverdamania register is based on voluntary contribution of machine numbers with no documented verification.
The law of averages evens the odds concerning it's reliability, no more.

Unless I'm mistaken the seat pod is being auctioned in the same auction-lot 4103? In my opinion it should have been auctioned with the Motorcycle but I would imagine whoever is the winning bidder for the Motorcycle will bid for this lot as well.

1983 bike supplied/registered by Three Cross in 1987 in Executive form. If I were asked to put restoration money on it being a factory original Executive and selling it as such, rather than a Three Cross special where they have kitted out an old un-registered RGS with a spare Executive kit from the storeroom shelf, my money would remain in my pocket. Something isn't quite right.
Wouldn't it be wonderful to have all the old factory and dealer documentation?!

It would be sensible. I suggested that to the auctioneer however the powers above had decreed it be sold as two lots. I hope they change their minds.

Irrespective of the Machines provenance bidding is off to a healthy start, it often surprises me what 'barn find' lots realise at auction

Does anyone have a photo of a US spec Executive VIN plate?

Best I can find so far (not a VIN plate above) but reference made to plate in thread.

And this Motorcycle is in the same auction, looks like a good project for RGS enthusiasts?
I was mindful that the auction for the RGS 'E' was held today, both the motorcycle and tail piece {in separate lots} realised good prices. I would imagine that whoever the buyer is has plans to reinstate the machine. I think this was much too good to strip down and eBay,😡 so I hope the winning bidder has a reasonably straightforward rebuild?

I hope it doesn’t get broken? They paid £5k all for it. I was surprised at how little the cases and tail piece went for.
