STAINLESS EXHAUST SILENCERS

Anybody have experience with Amour Motor Products https://armourmotorproducts.co.uk/
They are advertising stainless steel JOTA exhaust replicas on their site.
I would NOT recommend them.

Go for Keihan if buying stainless Jota 'silencers' from the UK.

Just be aware, stainless systems don't rot but they can and do fatigue particularly on a bike susceptible to vibration.
Collector boxes and silencers, thin wall. Fractures, weld it, watch it fall apart.

Just my experience with thin wall stainless on Laverda triples.

Over approx 12 years, I cracked the collector every way imaginable.
Blew the end caps off both silencers ( had billet versions machined up) cracked the front end of the silencers.

I used to prototype truck exhausts so I feel confident that it was put on as well as the design allows.
Don't let me put you off .

Have had a full Keihan system on my Jota since 1990. A bit tricky to get all lined up and symmetrical but otherwise no issues.

I can not speak about Armour Products but not only cracked the Keihan downpipes (at the ring at the top), ends of the collector box and other parts but also the collector box is a shit design. It caused my 1200 tuned engine not to cross 6.300 revs while the collector box was glowing cherry red on the dyno...

I had a proper exhaust manufacturer near by take a look and he laughed his ass off when he saw the collector box... after some talking, he sorted it and the bike now happily revs beyond 8.5000 and puts out loads of power and torque.

Further to that, i would highly recommend NOT to use stainless on the silencers. A) it is way more heavy than the chromed steel ones and b) the sound is simply ugly compared to the steel ones. Not sure what this causes but they sound very harsh and not so "rounded" as the chromed metal ones...

Malcom Cox for sure can help you out with chromed ones. only heard good things about the quality yet.

Tried contacting Malcom a couple of years ago by phone and email, never had a response so assumed he shut up shop.
Anybody know otherwise?

Malcolm Cox is alive and well and still making/ selling exhausts for many Laverda's and discs as well. he sends abroad a lot of parts, you may have tried to contact him whilst his comms were down, several moves, a painfull divorce, and the best ever disgusting tale of woe from British Telecom that I have ever come accros, try again Russ.

I have had a stainless system on TOG for absolutely decades, I do not know the manufacturer since I did not buy any part of it new, and yes it fractured a couple of times, this was remedied by extending the collector about an inch and altering the inlets of the silencers as well, they dont notice, but if you look carefully they are not at all stock, the chain cannot drag on the RHS silencer even if dragging in the road slack, and the brake pedal on the left, cannot foul the silencer even if the fluid runs out, a bit of re-inforcing and the system has since never failed, until a few years ago when the inlets of the silencers got very thin, from the inside, no problem, chop off, weld in replacements and re-polish the whole caboodle and hey presto back to concours winning condition.
CLEM

Hi Russ,

Just to confirm to you that I am not dead....and thank you Clem, am very much alive and working silly hours still.
I do not know why you could not contact me, my number is 0044 1789 764349 (International dial) or coxeng@gmx.com but I can
confirm I did have some ridiculous telephone and internet issues which went on for ages. I still produce all the Laverda Breganze
chrome exhaust parts as I have done since 1978. I also run Laverda Riders Worldwide on facebook where you can also message me...
Oh.....not planning to die in the near future...hahaha....regards, Malcolm

Here you go Russ, not sure why anyone would want stainless when bikes are not ridden on salty roads in the winter.!!! The armours silencers
are not "Jota" silencers as you would know them, they are the wrong shape....
I started manufacturing my Jota silencers in 1978, and have now produced just over 3,600 pairs...
I would be quite happy to produce you a pair....
And thank you to everyone who recommended my products, appreciate it.!!!
regards, Malcolm
