The Aussie depository.....

My late uncle who lived on a farm always said "If you think you hear someone in the house or moving around outside investigate without the gun." Bloody wise words. I nearly killed my son with a baseball bat one night. I woke hearing movement in the house and went to investigate carrying the bat and a torch. As I moved up the passage a figure lurched out of a doorway in front of me. Fortunately I was able to stop the swing of the bat when I saw his face in the torchlight. Had I had a loaded gun things could have been quite different.

When we moved from the country to the city I sold my high powered firearms. John Howard later paid me for the semi-auto .22 and 12G and to be honest I cannot say that I have missed them.

Terry: I'm no Pro gun Mob member but I did grow up with guns.

For Davo; I know what's it's all about opening a bed room door to check that your children are safety tucked in before bedding with a wife.

But when a bear is chasing your child, I want at least a 16 gauge loaded with slugs or a 9mm pistol.

A 303 Lee Infield or a 12 Gauge will do.

Take it your a city dweller with totally different concept about fire arms.

If I lived in the outbacks of Australia fending Croc's, Big Rogue Roo's and Snakes and heaven forbid a Tasmanian Chihuahua Devil compared to were I live in Northern Ontario, (Bears, Wolf Pacs, Rattlers, Water Moccasins and Rogue Moose ... etc)  Fire Arms are second nature that we never want to use but have to know them and should not be allowed not to carry one in the Bush. We do have Mountain Lions and very Big Fisher Martins (6 Ft Poll-Cats) in Northern Ontario.

Canadian laws are making it almost impossible today for a Busher to carry a fire arm because of City Gun Violence.

Not sure if that's for me or Davo:
I do live in the country and I have grown up with guns, as a member of the army cadets and 36 years in the military:
I'll list the weapons which I'm familiar with:
Martini Henry rifle,
Lee Enfield 303'
Bren Gun LMG,
Stirling SMG,
SLR,
Browning 9mm pistol,
20mm Oerlikon,
40mm Bofors,
25mm Bushmaster chaingun,
Phananx Close in Weapon System,
Mk 48 Mod 4 Heavy Weight Torpedo, and
UGM84 Block 1B Harpoon Cruise Missile
So, as you can see, I'm pretty familiar with all sorts of weapons but still can't understand why anybody reckons they need a semi-automatic weapon in there home (maybe its a dick thing) ::)

Davo: I had a Boar War Henry Martini 57 (Was tempted to fire a 16 Gauge Slug through that Damascus Barrel) - Could not find rounds for it - A simple British SMLE  Lee Enfield does me just fine.

I trust you Guy's can own a SMLE 303 Lee Enfield - After all your a British Penal Colony - LOL

Screw the  AR15 and AK 47 Pee-Shooters.

Can you believe we can legally buy CZ58's and Tavors costing much money in Semi-Auto but limited to 5 rounds - Stupid guns in my opinion, where I would choose a good SMLE, Swiss K31 or a Ross for less then 1/2 the price or perhaps a Mossin or a Mauser K98 .

They are bolts but would not mind a Scoped Gewehr 43 Karabiner 7.92?57mm Mauser 5 round Semi for here in Canada mabe an Arab Hakim or SVT40.

5 round 308 Semi AR10's are not worth their weight in gold.

No, no Austeyr, carried them on board but never had the pleasure, too busy playing with my combat system, missiles and torpedoes :D

What do you think I did in the Royal Navy and Royal Australian Navy for 36 years Ron? ???

Military no argument but civilian possession and use of fire arms is different.

You fired a 40mm L/60 Bofor Canon - That must have been something.
I knew you Aussies were holding back - Note FPS Russia said Civilian owned.

Imagine them in multiple sets of quad Anti-Aircraft weapons on WWII Yorktown class Carriers.

The Bofor was Swed/Swiss design if I recall.

Terry I totally respect your time and risk in service with all the nightmares associated with it and you should have no have issues with Pensions and Medical Care.

Cos it has a magazine. Pretty simple.

Any Firearm other then a single shot has a mag - I'm all for limiting mag capacity especially for Semi-Auto's in civilian hands as they serve no purpose other then for military use and killing people.

Allowing Police to use Large Mag Semi or Full-Auto Military firearms against civilians is another matter.
