The Aussie depository.....

Would be a great double with Moto GP that weekend but my son and I are on a package GP tour for today and Sun and can't guarantee to be back into the city from PI in time to get to the speedway on Sat night.

Well, the AFL season is over and the Doggies were deserved winners and with that, my interest in this forum has diminished. I've come to realise that I've always been a motorcyclist first and a Laverda owner second and who I ride with is more important to me than what they ride. Having said that, I've enjoyed the light-hearted banter I've particularly enjoyed Reggie?s excellent photography. So, most probably see some of you at Curdie Vale in February and hope the BSFOS goes well.
Cop you later.
Terry
P.S. All hipsters must hang ;)

But Tel, who won - Hawthorn or WCE - with the Sam Mitchell trade for pick 88 in the draft.  :o

A Laverda in an endurance race today.

Big Orange in The Melbourne Cup.........will likely lead and run out of petrol a furlong shy of the line  ;)

Aaarrgh fucking cricket.  >:(

If anyone is watching Australia vs South Africa on TV they'll know it's at Bellerive oval (aka Blunstone Arena) which is a couple of blocks from my place. Car parking at the venue is utterly inadequate and several streets are closed in a moronic attempt at traffic management, but it only makes matters worse. Cars are parked on every available inch of kerbside for a radius of about 1km from the oval, which leaves nowhere for locals to park. I have to go through all that mess to get anywhere. I get re-directed by traffic control idiots in hi-viz vests who send me in directions I don't want to go. It pisses me off.

I'm going to my local watering hole (Bellerive Yacht Club) for a meal this evening at about the time the game finishes and the cricket crowd will all be trying to leave at once. It'll be fucking gridlock. Reckon I'll be better off walking. Not to mention that the yacht club car park is chockers with fucking cricket spectators' cars who have no fucking right to park there. It's a private car park but it isn't gated and the club doesn't have the resources to police it.

Fuck me, there's another 2 days of this shit. I hate cricket.

End of rant.

As you were ...

Unless they're all South African visitors I'd expect the crowd to drop off quickly now....

Just been through much the same thing. A local group holds the Hororata Highland Games in our rural village. Parking at the venue for a small donation - but there's always some who'll choke up the village to avoid paying. Last year we had picnickers leavings and dog droppings on our verge...This year a strategically placed "verge closed" road sign I picked up somewhere did quite a good job of keeping them away.

Took me a few minutes to decode GOMS - grumpy old man syndrome. Yep, that's me  :D

It's too dark for play and all 20 of the fans have f'd off. Go and have a drink.

Mate, it's never too dark to play at Blundstone Arena. They have about a gigawatt of fucking great lights on fucking great poles around the oval. That's another point of contention for neighbours of the venue (did I mention that it's in a residential area?). Before the lights were installed, they said there would be no light spillage outside the actual playing area. Yeah, right. The light poles tower above the neighbourhood and can't help but light up the whole countryside. A mate of mine lives a couple of streets away and just about gets sunburn when the lights are on. As compensation for the light pollution, the Council (funded by us rate-payers) has paid for black-out curtains for hundreds of houses. As a form of compensation, the affected neighbours also get free admission to the cricket and football. But if you don't make use of the free admission often enough, they cancel your free pass! I'm glad there's a hill between me and the oval. I don't see the lights.

You really must learn the difference between Test cricket and day/nighters.  :o

I'm not really bitter about it. Just offering an alternative view on Aussies' obsession with cricket and football. For those of us who don't give a rats arse about the games, it's somewhat baffling as to why it's so important to so many people.

Think supporting a team it gives a lot of people a sense of belonging. Some need it more than others, specially Collingwood supporters ;)
