The Aussie depository.....

Eeeerrr no. Port have gained a lot of respect over here.
Ha haa! My SA cousin ia a diehard Adelaide supporter - he probably told me that. I certainly prefer PA to the Crows. (although they did steal Gavin Wanganeen from us - Bombers - way back - and won a Premiership with him as el capitano)

One of the best runs I ever had on The Putty Rd had me filter past a tailback to where the flagman had traffic stopped for tree trimming and removal. It's done regularly on that road, especially for bushfire brakes well back off the road. So I had a traffic-free run when the road opened. I really feel for those Victorians, horrible experience,

I delay my rides on windy days, just too many trees coming down. The roads around here are overgrown by big redgums, suppose they were planted in the days of horses and carts to provide shade for bullockys and animals.

A story I was told as a kid, my parents moved to a small country town just after they got married and the biggest thing they owned was an old car. They go to town and while shopping a bloody big tree fell on it. Total loss, no insurance and the local council said tough luck, act of god. My Mum was scared of being near big trees for the rest of her life. Gums are a special for this, used to regularly hear Don't camp under that tree, it's a widow maker. I just remembered, I was camping on the Mountain at the Easter racers at Bathurst and heard a huge bang late one night, Yep a massive gum fell approximately 20 metres away. Bloody luck it didn't hit anyone camping up there, there were 20 thousand people in that campsite.

This fell down last Saturday, on my back boundary and across the back track I often use.
Fire wood for the next couple of years. I ride more forestry tracks than pavement and it's not unusual to have to turn around. I live amongst big trees and limbs fall regularly. If ya shit out of luck!!

Nice redwood Rob...... be a good session on the chainsaw

Have you got any milling equipment Rob? Like chainsaw jigs for creating saw logs, then thicknesser/joinery bench once it's cured? I guess you;d need to want a lot of dressed timber to make an outlay like that worthwhile!

Back when we used to trail ride The Watagan State Forest and National Park up near Whyong we would get every few years an East Coast low weather system that would blow over thousands of trees, It would take months to clear the fallen trees from the trails up there. You soon got good at Bunny Hoping logs.

Yes Q I can turn trees into furniture. All the timber and furniture in my house, I milled the timber either from my property or a couple of mates properties. Trouble is I'm getting too old to be playing with big chainsaws. The tree that fell is only firewood as there is quite abit of rot and the main trunk had fractured when landing. The top half fell into National Park so technically I can only cut on my side of the track not that the rules would stop me anyway.
