Them heavy vibes man

I just replaced the Grip Puppys on my bike. I have them over the Oxford Heated grips, the Oxfords are very hard and these Grip Puppys have a very comfortable amount of sponginess. Very comfy and still allow the heat through. They last about 2 or 3 years till they flatten out and need replacing. You need some dishwashing detergent to stretch and wiggle them on and you need to take care not to tear them when fitting. I like them a lot, and the heated grips saved me big time in Tassie when we hit the Polar Vortex, 0c and heavy rain in 100k winds. They were needed badly even with the mega buck Gortex Danese winter gloves.

Too bad that the Vibranator never caught on. These tuned-mass dampers were engineered using helicopter-rotor-head-damper, vibration-cancellation technology to disrupt the ?rhythm of vibration? in conventional motorcycle handlebars. I remember when they came out about 12 years ago they were regarded as the cat's ass for handlebar vibes if you took the time to tune them properly. Unfortunately there was a lot of trial and error needed to make them work and they lost favour pretty quick and I believe are no longer available. Tried a set on a V11 Sport Guzzi and after about 30 times on and off to tweek them they finally mad a HUGE difference ....... but even then it was only best at the frquency you tuned for and the effect diminished a bit above and below that frequency. I still liked the way they worked.

I have a set of those on the 3c Jota Bars attached to the bar end weights as well. I also drilled a small hole in the central section of the same bars and injected the liquid that Bar Snake make, they do a solid insert that is supposed to dampen vibs but you need bars with open ends, I also as well bought gloves that had gel inserts on their palms. My bike was a shocker with vibs before the crank was done. My first multi-day ride resulted in 2 months of pins and needles feelings in my wrists. It's much better after Reds crank work but its not perfectly vib free.

Pretty soon someone will come up with a digitally controlled version that adjusts the tuning on the fly, with an app to go with it. My hands hate straight roads, just like Vince says. Plenty of corners and they never give a problem. Any long stretch with steady throttle and I have to keep swapping to use my left hand on the right hand side and get circulation back in my right hand, I have  got very good at steering with the "wrong" hand, it demonstrates clearly how pushing the bar makes the bike steer.

I fitted a set of Vibranators on an old BMW.  Didn't notice much change in the admittedly slight vibration of the handle bars.  In the literature that accompanied the Vibranators there was no mention of tuning them.  Odd.

Hmmmmm ...... the set I bought had a very detailed set of instructions. They also made a very big difference on the Guzzi vibrations ..... but when I first put them on they didn't change much. I moved the weight one direction and not much change so then I moved it the opposite direction and it started making an improvement. Made quite a difference once I hit the sweet spot ........ but again, the effect wasn't as prominent at higher or lower rpm's.
