Timing chain for Laverda 500

Great help, many thanks!!

if an 8mm link works (5/16 is normally 7,93mm) we could have a chance as all of them have tools for 8mm links... Then it depends on the roller size, the pins are endless and are just cut to suite.

A friend suggested maybe contacting agricultural company’s to see if they are used on any tractors etc
but no luck see reply below.

5/16 pitch is the equivalent of UK 05B pitch chain ( 7.93mm - 8mm) depending on which supplier measurements you use
Everything we sell for the tractors we supply parts for is 06B so a larger pitch. My supplier confirmed what you said about the chain being obsolete. It appears that 05b is not available in the width 7/32 or approx. 5.6mm
I'm sorry but I'm drawing a blank other than there is some information on line a Moto Guzzi chain may work. Other than getting new drives made suitable for a wider chain or guides I'm at a loss.

So if I bought 3 guzzi V50 chains 82 link I could in theory make 2 chains for my 500 admittedly with 2 joins in each?.
500 = 112 link, 3 x 82=246/2 =123 so I’d have links to spare for 2 complete chains. Or am I being stupid ?.

Up to you to determine that. ;)

All this has been thought through, see post #23 in this thread. M-G chains are also hard to come by and are far more expensive than the Laverda chains ever were. Still haven't got a connecting link, M-G chains are endless.

Not sure if I'd want to trust a re-rivetted chain in an engine that can possibly spin to 9500...

Thanks for the reply I have actually managed to find 3 hence the question BUT as you correctly pointed out they are NOT cheap £70 each.
So each chain would be over £100. Hefty outlay for a 🤞solution but desperate times lead to desperate measures……. I could just buy 2 I guess and just try making 1 but I’d have a big chunk left over…….mmmmmmmmmm

An absolute pain in the arse, this weirdo cam chain dimension. If only there were more of them circulating it would be feasible to remanufacture the crank centre piece (expensive, but done many times for SF twins) and the cam sprockets (easy).

Probably not that expensive. Certainly more economical than having a few thousand metres of chain produced.
Most of us are probably reasonably well off, otherwise we wouldn't be looking after these inanely expensive to maintain old machines.
One man's peanuts are another mans fortune.
