Ultrasonic cleaner liquid

What's the best liquid to use on Dels to clear out the idle passages? Heard some can turn carbs black.

Opinions are divided cleaning carbs in ultrasonic bath. Many use a drop of dishwashing liquid.
I use Tickopur 33 R in my heated ultrasonic bath, but keep an eye on the progress to avoid having the carbs turn dark.

I use dish washing soap in my ultrasonic cleaner. Phosphates in some soaps and detergents will turn the carbs gray, but it takes a while. So not something to be really concerned about unless you are going to be leaving the carbs in the cleaner for hours.

Tickopur 33R.

Other Tickopur products can magically turn carbs and other zinc alloy bits into a powdery mess at the bottom of the tank...

I found this link on YouTube the other day when I was looking for a suitable product to clean the carbs of my NC30, it works.

What's best for primary circuits? Ultrasound baths are great for general cleaning of cabs internally and externally, but if there's a blockage in a primary circuit, there's no guarantee it'll be removed, so a good soaking with carb cleaner and some compressed air (even from a footpump) will be the fix.

Boiling water is good- even used a pressure cooker in the past, but no reason why you couldn’t use a slow cooker. Don’t use domestic detergent as it can make things rust . Blackening in ultrasonic can be due to steel & aluminium mixed reacting. Used ultrasonic a lot but is not a cure all .

I have understood that:
-Red ones are bases, more suitable for degreasing steel parts
-Green ones are acidic, more suitable for cleaning aluminium alloys such carburettor parts and even somewhat remove oxides from them

Have not ever tried the green stuff, but bought a bottle of it. The current plan is to give it a try with a very small dose. Any suggestions or will it spoil the carbs?

The ultrasonic cleaners will not do much for the long drilled holes. They need to be cleaned separately. I use suitable brushes for them.

I also put a bit of water in the tank of my ultrasonic cleaner and use smaller containers where I immerse the parts in various degreasing liquids (sometimes even mixes of things like degreasers, nitro thinner, diesel, etc… it’s a bottle I keep in the basement and that I never feel like taking to the disposal center).
The most powerful and simply fantastic cleaner I’ve ever used is Carbunet, I found it at a motorcycle fair, and I can’t find it anymore— even the seller is gone. I still have 2 liters of it at home and I use it sparingly, as if it were 100-year-old aged whisky. Brass becomes like new, and its degreasing power on aluminum is exceptional without attacking the metal.
Here is a collection of images from a job on a Mikuni, tThe last image is the product’s can, while the container is a vanilla ice cream tub—this one just as essential!! 😄

Caustic soda for brass jets, don’t use on alloy as it will fizz & disappear like an aspirin .I have used acupuncture needles or fuse wire as unblockers .Ive never needed to separate a bank of carbs. I cleaned a recent Vespa 50 Dellorto the other week- to make the carbs cheaper the choke jet in the plastic float bowl is now a push fit not an inteferance fit . I was airlining the bowl when something shot out and hit my glasses before hiding on the workshop floor! Could I find the bloody thing? Next morning I saw it from 6 feet away as I walked in the workshop. Watch out for washers/orings/ springs before blasting it dry.

Found this carb cleaning solution on-line called Ultrocarb. Not too expensive & did a nice job on 2 sets of Delorto PHF 32s. One set was from a Monty that hadn't run in 28 years. The other set was off an Alpino that had not run for at least 5 years with the petrol left in carbs !! Followed the instructions more or less with rather pleasing results. I did make a point of turning the carbs through 90 degrees, ( both vertically & horizontally ), every 15 mins to make sure any air pockets should have been expelled. I also have a set of airbrush paint sprayers fine cleaning brushes & wires to push through all holes, orifices etc just to be sure ! Try these people https://www.allendale-ultrasonics.co.uk/collections/ultrocarb

Are those two bikes running satisfactorily?

Hi Paul, both bikes are subject to ongoing restoration at the moment. Unfortunately, both bikes have been worked on by people who really didn't know what they were doing !! But considering the state of both pairs of carbs before the utrasonic clean, ( blackened & bunged up ), & after, (shiny & clean ), am hoping they will only require basic set up & then balance. Spoke to Ducati Paddy before he closed down & got 4 overhaul kits plus everything else he recommended. Am more than happy with the effectiveness of the UltroCarb cleaning solution, but it must be remembered that the ultrasonic cleaning process is not the be all & end all of a carb's overhaul. The use of a carb cleaning kit's brushes & wires + small brass brush wire wheels on a Dremel is a must just to be sure every bore hole is clear.
Here's a link to carb clean brush & wire kit on Amazon
And when you're finally done, get a drinking straw & make sure you can physically blow through every hole !!

Fingers crossed for you. I've had a few clean carbs after having been through the ultrasonic bath several times that still had blocked idle passages.
