Yes.Tuning for speed, is there any performance advantage to running correct length velocity stacks, top speeds?
correct, I did post up some info on low pressure flow and velocity stack shapes a few years ago but I was vilified by a particular over opinionated individual at that point so since then I have reduced my input to this forum to a bare minimumYes.
The shape of the velocity stack is important for maximising laminar flow into the carburettor. I believe Red posted a link to an article about this but that was years ago.
The length of the inlet tract can be used to create a resonance effect to maximise intake at particular rpm. Find a copy of 'Tuning For Speed' by Phil Irving, explains it all.

BEE 8ESI have always run a filter on my Laverda, but that is not a complete guarantee against foreign object ingestion.
Some years back, riding with my mate, Steve, we crossed an area of road where the top surface of tarmac had been removed. At the end there was a two inch step onto the old surface. As I accelerated over the ridge, the engine started popping and banging and, mainly, running on two cylinders.
Fortunately, it happened not too far from home. Once back, I checked the exhausts to find the coolest one, pulled the plug and was pleased to have Steve as a witness, because I would have struggled to believe this, if told by someone else:
There was a bee trapped between the electrodes of the spark plug.
My best guess is that it had crawled into the filter box at some point earlier, during maintenance, while I had the rubbers off. Died and dehydrated, when I gave a handful of throttle, and hit the bump, it had popped up and been sucked into the engine.
How the heck it managed to miss all the things that might've smashed it to smithereens is anyone's guess but it did and lodged between the electrodes.
I took a Polaroid, which went missing for a number of years, found last week while looking for something else. It's not studio quality, but you're seeing what I saw when I pulled the plug out.

The length of the "velocity stack", and also the overall length from the valve to the slide and to the entry to the velocity stack. It is the most annoying thing about the standard SF frame, heavily restricted for lengthening. Getting off track from filters though.Yes.

Huntster turned Redback?Similar to Quentin's story, I've had a mouse crawl into the back of the stove and electrocute itself across a couple of spade connectors at the back of one of the control knobs. It wasn't in the actual hot part, but the stink of decomposing mouse eventually made its presence known.
Also had a huntsman spider in the back of the washing machine that did a similar thing, except it tripped a circuit breaker. Took a while to identify the faulty appliance then discover the electrocuted spider.
I reckon there’s a food outlet that’d be interested in those freshly cooked lamb nuggets, if you train the rodents to shop at the chook shed, you could sell fresh chicken nuggets to Red Rooster.Was about to go for a ride but decided to check things out beforehand, on removing the tank I found that mice or rats decided to store sheep nuggets neatly between the cooling fins on the cylinder head.
Glad I checked, don't know what damage would have resulted if I hadn't.
