Valve clearances

That centre exhaust cam block is collapsing nicely.

Paul
Hello Paul, you mean this one? How can you tell?
Russ, Piss them cheese cam blocks off, and get a new billet set from Redax.....😉 money well spent!
Thanks for the advice Hooksey - I guess they don't come cheap & the cams would need replacing at the same time?

Russ, No need to renew cams as long as they look ok.... A11 are a great cam in a standard donk 😎
Cam Blocks are reasonably priced for what they are 👌🏼
Mine bike ran fine and cam shafts ran free..... I just didn’t like the look of cracked n collapsed blocs and splayed studs 😳

By all means bolt the rocker back up n give it the berries as you intended.....😜 cam blocks can wait!

Luv the response - all bolted back-up now. Just waiting for some exhaust gaskets & collars plus appointment date for the bike inspection / registration with the authorities.

those came bearings are actually early Roman, but if they work and you got the clearances good, then go for it, as you have,
TOG (my 1200TS) did 130MPH twice in the last two months both times in company with 4C and high comp equipped triples, she has A11 cams and 7.8:1 pistons

The inner side is squashed leading to splayed studs.
It won't stop the engine by the side of the road but whilst you're at it.

"7.8:1 cr? Is that a typo?"

the actual compression ratio of the 1200TS which is usually quoted as 8:1, which it might be if you didn't have a head gasket

and yes I have holed a few pistons!

It's all about keeping the inlet valve open for as long as possible. 0.10mm less clearance can make a difference of maybe 10° or more at the crank, depending on cam profile.
I feel like a dummy ... I'd not connected the valve clearances to 'over-all' timing (in my head) so a spot of good info. .
My #2 is running less clearance than #1 and #3 and I think you can tell.

The late Lance Weill of Rickey Racer fame recommended running valve clearances tight Inlets .15mm and exhausts .20mm on bikes he prepped for the track and .20mm all round on street bikes. Eraldo Ferracci (now retired) prepped the head on my 78 Jota and Lance dialed in the cams and set the tight clearances prior to running the bike in the La Carrera Classic in Baja Mexico. 33 years later the head has not been removed, those guys did something right (cam chain replaced). Now with a slight head gasket weep on the left front along with some oily residue around the exhaust crown (rectified with replacing the copper crush gaskets) and valve clearances getting tight with small shims in place it is time to pull it and take a look? These are the reason I did a compression check
