I knew there was a road circuit where they jumped a railway track. It would be the end of civilization if that happened in oz. Great vids.

Nah, Paeroa stopped a few years ago. Health and Safety costs I heard. Although it makes me wonder, when Whanganui can manage with orange hazard fencing. Paeroa was great for us, just a quick trundle from Auckland so could do it in a day.
Still remember Andrew Stroud wheelying the Britten down the straight 😁. His son Jesse was racing at Whanganui, cleaned up the Supersport 300 class!
Speaking of the Britten, I’m at TePapa Museum now so I’d better find the display 😉

Well here we are again on Boxing Day 2023 with another spectacular day of top racing. After a wet week Whanganui put on a beautiful day with track temperatures reaching 45c at one stage. Lap records were being broken in several classes. Mitch Rees pipped dad Tony in the F1 and the pair took a 1-2 finish. Great to see after losing brother/son Damon earlier this year. In another kiwi racing dynasty, young Jacob Stroud exchanged the lead several times with his older brother Jessie in the 300 Super Sport class. There’s some serious talent coming through!

Shyza! It's like the NW 500!! Street racing at those speeds - with a few hay bales scattered around in case things go wrong!!! Looks like an awesome spectator locale, Andy.

It’s a part of our main series 😁
To be fair there are airbags at the critical points, but it’s great action for spectators, being close enough to see the glint in their eyes 👍
Book yourself in! It’s an international event 😉
 
No it's not part of the National series. It's the third round of the Suzuki series which despite it's publicity is not the premier series here.
I personally worded the remit many years back which took Wanganui out of the Nationals. my view - and a lot of others at the time - was that you should not be compelled to ride at a street circuit to achieve a National title. In recent years a few of the supported teams and individual riders have chosen to do the other 2 rounds of the Suzuki series - but sit out Wanganui. So it's a view which still holds water.
The NZGP at Ruapuna - Christchurch - is next week and it's not possible to score National points if you're injured from Wanganui

That said, it's great entertainment and most riders here do it at least once. I was highly amused a couple of years back when told of the instructions given to a visiting overseas rider (with IOM experience). Jay Lawrence who also has IOM experience was telling him - "hang the back end out over the white line here - use this bump to get it sideways here before putting the power on " They were doing a circuit walk accompanied by a guy I know who'd arranged the ride. He got taken aside after the walk and asked "was that how he rides here ?" answer was yes - and he has a lot of wins here to his credit. Visiting rider walks away shaking his head.
