What did you do to or for or with your Laverda today?

Left thumb has finally healed well enough to manage the clutch on my 1200 (broke it back in May).  Got out today for a quick blast NW of Calgary, big storms chasing me the whole time, but made it back before the clouds burst. Only 50 km in on the bike since the rebuild - it's still oil-tight and running very well. Can't wait to be able to put some long trips in on her again.

Finally started on my custom centrestand for the SF so I can run both pipes underslung. Had already done one side for the factory 2/1, but need to have it double sided. Wish the factory had made the SF stand a al SFC (actually i wish the factory had made a lot of SFC mods to the SF! They could have had a whole new style of bike and a bigger market with the sports bike afficionado).

Tried out the pipe bender I bought from Repco and it worked a treat - not mandrel bending, but more than good enuff for a centrestand in mild steel.

Ain't got no welder so it's the friendly chap at Mr Muffle. Gonna take a few visits as i cut and shape the bracketry.

Will this be using the standard SF frane lugs, or at you having to cut and weld?

The handles can be indexed to whatever position you like (well, in 60 deg increments anyway, so 6 positions). If positioned downward, they can double as hooks for tying luggage onto the seat.

I wouldn't use those. Could be very nasty in case of a fall transforming a benign slide into a surgical party.

Changed clutch plates (pattern) for originals,springs and changed slightly worn primary crank end bearing at Alans' this afternoon,, big thanks.!

Can't possibly use the std lugs. I've seen factory 2/1s forced under the LH lug (even with the sidestand bracketry still in place!) and it ain't pretty. I already have the LH lug inboard, just need to do the same with the RH. I'm getting other work done on the frame (like reinforcing cracked upper rear engine mounts), so no big deal.

You could buy a small single phase DC stick welder for what it would cost to get a couple of welds done by an engineering workshop.

Hi Andy, I like them, and I don't like them... They are better for looking back than the fairing mount mirrors, but I will be going back to the fairing mount. These are too wide for lane splitting in traffic.

The fairing mounted mirrors I took off were the rectangle ones, and one would not stay in position. I will not put these back on, but buy the Californian type. 
 
Contacted a business that offer EFI kits for parallel twins out of the USA.

Gave them all the 880SFCK's current cc, carb details: bore, stub sizes etc. and ignition details, it could be interesting to see what they come back with ;)

You?d be best off doing a welding course and getting a shitload of scrap to practice on, too. As an analog myy flamenco teacher refused to take students with cheapo guitars, he told them it needed a m?stro to make shit like that to sound in any way good, and just be demotivating.
I bought one of the cheap gas/gasless migs (Italian) that were everywhere at that time in the ?90s. The basic unit is ok, except that it has switches you combine for amps instead of a potmeter, and the hose/handpiece was shit. I fitted a Kemppi hose/handpiece which transformed it, but don?t know electrons well enough to swap to a potmeter. The more I weld the better I get. The main problem is that when I use it on full guff, just as the arc starts it tends to trip the 16amp breaker to the workshop (into the house and reset it in the laundry elec panel), unless I start extremely gently. And then there is the eyesght that makes it really hard to see just where I am welding.
 
I stick welded the current ?half-modded? centre stand myself. Now that it?s off I can see where I?ve had a great time angle grinding the ridiculous excess weld I managed to add! It?s stood the test of time and was fortunately out of sight. Actually it?s not that bad. And I think a stick welder in the garage is overdue Cam. Don?t trust myself to do anything important neatly and reliably tho. When you see  what a pro can do it?s obvious what a skill it is. Did a two day welding course for my cert 3 in bicycle mech. Great fun but TIG on alu and stainless? No way in a fit!
 
Had a CIG stick welder for about 40 years. Bought it to build the trusses etc for a shed we lived in for a few years out in the sticks. Have used it on and off ever since for jobs that needed doing around the house and farm. Last effort was to make wine racks. Have even used it to weld up a cracked cast iron oven. My welds may not satisfy the cognoscenti but I have not yet had one fail. I have a MIG now as well. Have yet to venture into the world of TIG.
