What did you do to or for or with your Laverda today?

Clem, one was an RGA. And I have fitted TS ones before.
As I said, I have fitted literally dozens of the things in the last few years, and more before that.
How the hell do I know when they were made and why do you think that matters?
I'm not doubting your experiences, just adding balance to the discussion, as in I personally don't see a fundamental issue with Venhill cables.

Did a five minute job today, that took half an hour to do. Front brake master cylinder hose, from reservoir to m/c had a weird leak, so I changed it to rubber.

Reservoir was the easy end, getting the end on at m/c being a larger dia fitting had me swearing at it, pointed nose pliers, some sun, then boiling water fixed it

I had to use Food grade clear hose, anything else would sweat brake fluid through the hose. That food grade stuff is plenty expensive. Its rated for Chemical use as well.Handy to see the bubbles when bleeding.

Vince, I used the green fuel line, it sweated too.

I could end up doing a Zarco/MM ( :o MartyMoose) if it lets go ......

"How the hell do I know when they were made and why do you think that matters?"

simply that Slater had no stock of the cable length that I needed, first he sent me one that was too long (returned fast)
and then I Had to wait for the correct length cables to be made and sent to him, and then one of them onto me, so it is a very recent batch issue that I have come across, so far the other cables from this batch, that Slaters have sent out have not been fitted to bikes and those bikes ridden, timing is why it matters.

As far as Venhill go they had two goes at correcting the issues, the first they just made a new cable with me telling them what "I thought" was the problem, the second (the day after) they made another cable (and a spare) with a speedo head and gearbox drive (not the ones from the bike) in their hands. None of them caused the instrument to work, Yes it has been checked, as has the gearbox.

I paid my money to Slaters for a part that got trashed and to Venhill, and didn't get any value out of that money, plus I spent diesel and two mornings attempting to get it right, .

I will Ride TOG very soon to test out the newly fitted factory old stock cable. get your eggs (free range) ready
CLEM

Sorry to hear of your issues.
I received a new Venhill from Slater on Friday and fitted it with no issues so I guess it was a new batch.
I always specify what type/length I need.

Hi there,
new to this forum, this is my first post other than for requesting that wonderful 2019 calendar.
This is what I have on the bench right now. Just to try to attach first picture, please excuse me in it does not go right at first trial.

Did it work?

Good = picture. I can see it!
Bad = your work area is far too tidy. Where are all the left overs from the previous dozen jobs?  ;)

Well, this is more like it actually. I'll open a thread in the Technical section for sharing this500 project and
to ask for advice. Right at the start I've hit the first snug.

I want a press like that! Can't bring myself to load more stuff into the workshop - and hoping once my two projects are on the road I won't need another press for any conceivable time.

Something to bear in mind when buying a press is whether there's enough room between the sides to fit a 18" wheel.  I didn't, and the little 12 ton press I bought is about 5mm too narrow so I can't use it to press wheel bearings in/out.

Now that winter is here (just about) i decided to overhaul the rear caliper on the Jota,it had played up briefly a couple of times, sticking slightly then freeing up,suspecting corrosion on the pistons being the cause I had already purchased a new set and a seal kit from DucattiPaddy (many thanks to him).

Made sure to crack the caliper Allen bolts before I removed it, as they were tight!!

made the job of splitting the caliper much easier

luckily the pistons came out easily, looks like i caught them just in time.

All done now,and working as it should be (bigthumb)

Cracking the caliper bolts before taking the caliper off is one thing to do. The other is pumping the pistons out whilst the whole system is still assembled. Can make things a lot easier.

Did a beautiful autumnal day tour through Eifel, Moselle valley (crossed several times) and Hunsrueck today:

Trees (and calendar) shows definitely autumn, but temperatures were very mild for the season though.

Cheers
Jo

I'm jealous......lovelly picture of orange bike against autumn leaves. All the leaves here are down and wisps of snow blowing around as day time high temps  drop below freezing.
