More finds from inside the SF1 engine

When I bought the Maxton shocks for my road SF and my VFR, it was cheaper to stop off on the way home from Australia (just timed in nicely), rent a car, drive to Cheshire and back to Heathrow with a hotel overnight at Cambridge than it would have cost import duties to Norway. A nice road trip holiday with my sister who was in UK at the time, instead of donating to customs coffers. If this pandemic one day thins out and we can travel again, cheap flights might beat customs duties and hassles. The green movement will be happy too.

At least you got hold of your package... Ordered a lampshade from the UK way before Christmas, now I get a mail from DPD in the Netherlands that I will first have to pay no duties but 21% NL VAT because that's where it entered the EU (in Germany it's 19%) plus 6€ for their fee before they will ship it further. And then it'll never arrive because DPD as a matter of routine will chuck your parcels out of the truck outside of buildings anywhere in town and forge your signature.
I just stick to DHL and UPS. If I can’t choose that on checkout , I call the company direct and arrange my own shipping. Most companies are happy to have that happen. I won’t use the post office from any country, just because once it hits Spain it can be difficult. That’s my experience. Miguel always seems to have success with the post office. I’m happy to pay for reliability if it’s a decent order

The longest postage time I ever experienced was a small parcel from Canada that took 3 months to arrive in Tasmania. And that was pre-Covid!
I think most of that hold-up was Australian Customs. It must have fallen down the back of their couch. Probably discovered when some fat bloke sat on the couch and it jabbed him in the arse.

That time was par for the course pre covid. We had a parcel take slightly longer Canada-NZ. Our man in Canada asked around and was told by someone who supposedly had the inside line that all air mail to this end of the world went into an airfreight container. When it was full, it was sent.
Obviously it could take some time to fill....

Years ago, At least 50 I took over the upgrade to the motor registration office (RTA) in Penrith. The original contractor went out of business. One thing he had done was put a new letter box in the double brick wall but failed to bridge the gap between the to walls, consequently all the mail was falling down the cavity.
People were coming in and complaining that they had paid the vehicle registration, parking fines but now had court summons for non payment. It wasn't till the cavity was full that mail starting coming through into the collection box inside. When we cut a hole in the brickwork there were hundreds of letters in there. Much frantic action from the staff and heads from Sydney.
That was slow mail most was from the same suburb.

That is totally insane! Was it Fawlty's one-armed builder?! Any bodies hidden in there as well??

I would be interested to see if the nylon chips have made their way through the mesh filter and more importantly through the oil pump .
I haven't seen plastic chips in any slingers I have emptied. Plenty of times they are stuck in the mesh as you say. I have once or twice seen one sitting in the hole under the rocker arm interfering with the oil to the cam lobe.

I don't think that you need to conceive it as bits. The wear of the nylon participates in the sludge which deposits in the slingers.

I have had the same experience with all motors made so far (> 25).

What also helps against wear is to attach a small permanent magnet at the bottom of the baffle plates under the crankshaft or inside the filter (sticks by itself).
This is where chips (e.g. from the gearbox) and abrasion collect. This is then no longer in circulation with the oil.
