With more than over 250,000 km with several 750 Laverdas, I never had a problem with the starter, alternator, ignition coils or the regulator.
Why also? Same type of dynamo, ignition coils and regulators were used in millions of VWs (beetles and buses) and ran for hundreds of thousands of kilometers without any problems.
But I often had to help Laverdisti who had problems with these parts.
The cause was always wrong treatment.
Regulator:
- Rubber storage is missing or defective
- no ground connection
- Cable connections broken off / vibrated because solder was used or the cable feed was too tight.
- Connections to the battery are rotten
Ignition coils:
- Cable connections broken off / vibrated because solder was used.
- The fastening clamps of the ignition coil broken, because the two original aditional reinforcement plates were not used.
Battery destroyed:
Battery not attached and / or no cushioning rubber pad under the battery
Often, cable terminals are crimped incorrectly or even soldered - it has to break!
No ferrules on the cable ends in the fuse box is a "no go".
In the digital world you would say "problem in front of screen". ;-)
