the ugliest bike

You can pick up decent used Diavels for about £8-9 grand here in the UK , although the electronics may be reaching the end of their shelf life on those examples . 160 bhp , 130 Nm torque combined with 460 lbs dry weight is kinda tempting...

Followed one on the Mirage crossing over The Marlborough Downs in Wiltshire once , on the A4 between Calne and Beckhampton , he was cruising at an easy 110-120 mph ( something like that , the ND needle on the Mirage was starting to bounce around a bit , not to mention my eyeballs , although to be fair the road surface here is pretty good ) , with the odd extra burst now and again to demonstrate he had a lot more in reserve .

BTW this stretch of road going up to Marlborough is thankfully still devoid of cameras , lets hope it stays that way , Malcolm Newell who created the Feet Forward Quasar and lived nearby once said "The A4 is my Street , man", which sums it up well , he once launched a Quasar off the top of an incline just outside Marlborough which resulted in parts of it ending up in the branches of the trees lining the road...)

Regarding launching things , after the WW2 the Vincent factory employed as road testers ex servicemen , including some ex RAF...there`s a story about a Rapide being taken out for a shake down run , becoming airborne after crossing a steep hump back bridge and eventually ending up embedded in the top deck of a double decker bus , on fire...)

Bloke in the garage opposite has one ( a Diavel ), he`s a H-Davidson guy , has a V-Rod and some old Sportster as well as the Ducati , he had some electrical problems with his but managed to fix it himself , despite being a hammer and chisel type when it comes to servicing his bikes .His is all black , parks it outside The Prom on Gloucester Rd Bristol at weekends . Looks quite neat , if your`e after a cruiser with big balls a Diavel is probably the thing to go for .

This is a Quasar by the way , with ,I think , Bike journalist Royce Creasy sparking up the undercarriage .

They’re not too bad for an Italian Harley,a mate of mine has one, I did about 1000 kms on it, if they had a comfortable 2up set up I’d get one

I’ve probably entered this picture of what I think is simply horrific, but I’ll do it again. The Madura series from Suzuki, specifically the 700, omg,,,,,,,139D4B48-3259-4477-A7D9-3E471554BF08.jpeg

Concept electric motorcycle from Porsche , obviously designed by someone who would prefer us to stick with petrol .
I dunno what it is about "concept" motorcycles, but they always look like shit. Creating a smooth appearance without any visible engine or other sticky-outy bits is a common theme. That thing above looks like a well-used cake of soap.
I reckon they're mostly designed by student marketing stylists as a design assignment. I hope the millennial prick who designed that monstrosity got a poor mark for it. An engineer would never come up with anything so clearly driven by style rather than function.

Here is my vote for the ugliest ....... MZ Trophy.

Not the most beautiful looking bike but these got generations of workers to work in cold damp Factories behind the Iron Curtain. MZ has quite an impressive racing pedigree if you look more closely. At the time budgets and what people could actually afford dictated the sum total of the Trophy's parts, I believe it has earned its right to 'Classic Status' quite unashamedly.

This was called the Roadog....it`s owner / rider / creator went by the name of Wild Bill Gelbke, who was unfortunately killed in a police shootout .

Shouldn`t be included in this thread really as no one in their right mind could possibly call it ugly , imagine pulling up alongside some self righteous git on a H-D Dyna Glide or BMW GS at the lights on this , absolutely brilliant !

( Plenty of room for a passenger as well , Cosi )

I think it`s based around a Chevy V8 , or something similar , I remember first seeing this picture back in 1970 , hope it still exists , somewhere .

I reckon Gelbke had a creative flair rivalled only by that of Edward Turner and Massimo Tamburini .

Is the handling reminiscent of a Hippo in a Supermarket trolley?

I don`t know about handling , I imagine steering would be interesting though , not sure if that was hydraulically assisted , it was certainly fitted with a series of hydraulic jacks which would be lowered when it came to parking the thing .

I`ve been calling him by the wrong name , should be Gelbke , was going by memory and got it wrong .

His day job was working on guidance systems for surface to air missiles , then quit that to set up his motorcycle shop building bikes to his own design .
Although once reported as a bar room fight , his death was actually due to a shoot out at Wild Bill`s farmhouse after the police surrounded it due to alleged drug running . It seems the police ordered Gelbke to throw out his gun , which he did , but then one of the officers slipped on some ice and fell over , the other officers believing he had been shot then opened fire on Wild Bill , killing him .

The Roadog featured a liquid cooled V8 with automatic transmission , reverse gear , shaft drive , disc brakes front and rear , hydraulic parking jacks , twin headlights , not bad for a mid `sixties motorcycle , although a fair bit of that stuff would have come courtesy of using the car engine in the first place .

On the subject of Hippo's how about the NSU engined Monster Munch, so good that they named a bag of crisps after it!View attachment 63926
Thread should be stopped because of this comment😡
For us in Germany Friedel Münch was a genius and developed the most powerful and inovative bike of that time. Casted rear wheel, fully closed casted chain box, big front brake and al casted ack of the bike. E used the powerful NSU 1000 and 1200 car engines.
No other opinion is alowed!! 😜
