Moto Guzzi V100 Mandello....Modern RGS??

I think that Guzzi looks pretty cool. I wonder why it took them so long to move the carbies/throttle bodies out of the way of the rider's knees. Honda did it with their CX models by twisting the heads 45°. Guzzi has gone the full 90°. I suppose it leaves the space behind the cylinders clear for something else. It would be interesting to see how things are arranged under the tank.
I think it may be the move to water cooling that gave them the scope to make the changes?

CX was originally designed to be turbocharged, then it wasn’t, then it was. Guzz always had long pushrods up the inside which probably kept the heads fore/ aft.

I rode one the other day for an upcoming YouTube video on our Lemon Drizzle Gang channel. All five of us who rode it loved it, a fabulous thing to ride and nicer in the flesh than in pictures.
The 90 degree twist to move the inlet away from knees etc is exactly what BMW did when they went watercooled a few years back.
The aerodynamic flaps probably work but you can't tell on a warm day. Why would they go wrong when it gets wet? The only issue I've had electrically with my last 5 modern guzzis is one (Bosch) alternator.
Best bike I've ever ridden along with a R1250RS beemer, and the Guzzi is ( a lot) prettier and sounds like a hot rod v8.
I'll post a link when the video goes live in a few days for those that like that kind of thing.

I watch that last night, it definitely got a rave review. What with Aro such I big thing in Moto Gp expect more of that.

Saw this new Guzzi in person today. Also saw some YouTube reviews of this bike. I like the looks (much better looking in the flesh than in two dimensionsd) and the reviews seem quite positive. An interesting option for a Sport Tourer. It seems like a modern day cross between a Lemans and an SP1000. In Canada its priced reasonably.

If Laverda was still around would they make a modern day 3 cylinder RGS in this vein? If so I think I would buy one. Oh well, enough day dreaming.
Um, I believe the Triumph triple in all iterations is the modern equivelent of an RGS/120 Jota. And has been around for quite a while.

Phil Irvine originally conceived the twisted twin concept for British twins to reduce vibrations. Reds done a few Laverda Twins like that so there probably are Bonnies treated that way.O Triples, it pays to read back a bit to know what's being discussed.

I was asking about the current Triumph line, not the old Trident or Rocket 3. I assume it would be more involved than just the crank and cam and ignition timing. Do they have a balance shaft too? It would be interesting to ride two 955’s with different piston timing to see what they felt like. 180 vs 120.

I now have 2K miles on my V100 - and been very happy with this bike (replaced a Multistrada 1200s with 60K miles). I am promiscuous when it comes to Italian motorcycles..... Hard to believe that one only marque can satisfy all lusts. :)

It’s one of the best looking engines I’ve ever seen, amazing that it took so long to twist the heads 45*! And I agree with the posters that say the bike is better looking in the flesh than in photos. I saw one in traffic in Dublin and the green paint against the gold head looked great.

A thoroughly modern bike and quite striking in the flesh. Kevin Cameron did a nice review on the engine. https://www.cycleworld.com/motorcyc...d-v100-mandello-engine-technical-information/

The handlebars sticking up in the air spoils the look IMHO. A pair of clip ons would look good, if the fucken fairing and fuel tank wasn’t in the way. Maybe a tank and fairing in early Katana style would tidy it up.
