Eu U-turn on petrol cars

Kinda like a current train locomotive which uses a big deisel to charge battery which powers massive electric motors on each power wheel.
Based on what I knew when a youth, I don't believe that the majority of diesel electric rail locomotives use the battery as part of the transmission system, only as a means to start the diesel engine and to support electrical ancillaries when the diesel is not running. The diesel engine drives a generator that provides electrical power directly to the traction motors at the axles as a means of generating torque at the axles when they are not turning - a bit like the roles of clutch and gearbox on our bikes. The driver simply controls torque and speed via throttle equivalent input to the diesel. Historically some used hydraulic torque converters something like an automotive automatic transmission but without the changing ratios as they could be lighter than a generator and multiple axle motors. Except in a very few modern multi-fuel and sometimes also including direct electrical power hybrids, if the diesel engine isn't running the locomotive doesn't move.

I love watching and hearing the thunder of the trains crossing the desert here with four 4,000+ horsepower locos at the front, maybe another in the middle, and, for the steeeper inclines a couple more at the rear pushing, so a total of over 25,000 horse power to get that VERY long train up the hill. Gives an appreciation of the power that little ICE engine between our legs on the bikes gives us when I go speeding past on the parallel road.

Thanks for describing the system for me. I love the big beasts too!

I was wondering...do EV owners spend their weekends working in the garage modifying and tuning their vehicles? Changing chips? Bigger batteries? Installing triple FLUX capacitors!
No need for all that, as most EV cars come with more power and torque than their ICE equivalents 🤷‍♂️

If you "need" more, you can activate the "Boost" on the AWD version at least, which gives another 50 or so HP, a bit more torque (if almost 500Nm aren't enough...) and a more instant "throttle" reaction. Or you buy the top version, the Performance, with around 1.000HP and more than 1000Nm torque. That should do it...

You can upgrade your brakes though, your suspension, there are TONS of aftermarket accessories, some that make sense to have, some are just waste of money. Else, they are pretty boring in that regard, they simply work and do their job. Allways amazed about the acceleration though, especially in bad weather conditions. You have to controle yourself not to speed, as braking the 2 tons down to zero can be challanging in snow, if you overdoe it...

The world has moved.
Tuners have video games now.
Only a few old men and nostalgics in garages.

Toyota recently confirmed they are on target for limited release of their solid state battery on the market in 2027, with wider commercial production in 2030. Expected to provide about 1000km range from a single 10 minute charge, and battery to still provide 90% of original charge after 40 years. The range of these could make a viable electric motorcycle.

I see a tech company is introducing an electric bike that uses the new solid state batteries: 184 miles added in a 10 minute charge, 344 miles total range at full charge in a 236kg package. 102 kw and 1000 Nm! Gamechanger?IMG_0438.webpIMG_0439.webp

I don't like the exposed cables, as that cries for an idiote cutting them, but else: impressive numbers, if they are real world numbers! Design is not totally mine, but still a very interesting bike! Looks a bit like 3D printed. 😂

What company is that, please?

EDIT: found it, VERGE : https://www.vergemotorcycles.com/

@Alzero you forgot to mention the best argument: It's available in ORANGE!! (though it's the wrong orange...)

Tops out at 124 mph ......... bit of a slug innit ? .......... :) ...............
you don't go fast on e-Bikes or cars, it is more about acceleration.

As the bike for sure has a slip-controle, I assume that is done by reducing the torque/reducing the energy going into the engine. Helps to save tires and not to trouble yourself... Imagine you hit a pump in an corner and your wrist moves a bit...

"Power is nothing without controle"

Massive electric four wheelers the size of a small tank which accelerate 0 - 100 kph in two seconds coming to a High Street near you ?

Doesn`t this smack a little of overkill ? .......... Literally so , if you can`t make it to the pavement in time ........ ...................

Give me a 1957 Velocette Venom which does 0 - 100 kph in eight seconds , and whose carbon footprint was paid for decades ago anytime ........

I was talking to a bod is involved with the future of motoring and he explained to me that individual electric transport would be automatically speed controlled & monitored so they could drive nose to tail in perfect safety, enabling more vehicles to occupy the same stretch of road.
You’ve invented the train I said…
This will of course be very easy with an electric vehicle that already has self drive capability, speed sensors, spyware etc…..but you all knew that right? Cars with no steering wheel or any controls for that matter will soon be upon us, set the Sat-nav and away you go at 19 mph.
2026 will see me eff off around Europe on a two stroke, an out of date map and little idea of where I’m going!

It seems in Chinese cities it is quite usual to see a driverless car pull up to the kerb ...... passengers will get in ...... and the driverless car will then pull away again .

Starting to appear now in California as well ?

Driverless taxis due to start trials in London from April onwards ....... concerns about driverless cars being able to spot motorcyclists remain ........

BTW .......Since 2022 the USA fatality count for self-driving cars rear-ending and killing motorcyclists is now up to five .........

All vehicles involved are Teslas .............

This problem is unique to Tesla ..... No other self driving automobile manufacturer or self-driving technology provider has reported a single similar motorcycle fatality within the same timeframe .

The problem would appear to be flaws contained within Teslas Autopilot technology , together with the irresponsible / inaccurate manner in which it is marketed to the public .

Regarding the almost universal 100% fiscal failure of electric motorcycles, I submit to you the much talked about and loved upon tree hugger set, local, Damon Motorcycles. Brand new factory built only 4 miles from my home, regional offices for export and distribution.
Certainly IMO a much more visually appealing machine, than most.

Recently a massive local dealer for Zero Motorcycles, has recently given up, thru sales disappointment, warranty issues without company backup, a complete disaster.

Local online motorcycle blogger, Ryan @ Fortnine, recently did a video on converting a tiny gas Honda s outer to an electric, but very “grey” legality machine!!

Driverless taxi is one thing- would you fly in a plane with no pilot?
