Eu U-turn on petrol cars

Under Key points:

"The announcement comes after Ford said it would record similar writedowns following a broad resetting for the U.S. EV market due to consumer demand and changes by the Trump administration."

We expect the same losses, now that our government has changed direction again, too. The car industry faces massive issues having to offer ICE, hybrid and EV in parallel. this means 3 times the development work, 3 times parts storage, 3 times more complecate production etc. etc. etc. - not talking about having to look into alternative fuels, hydrogen etc. etc. etc.

Focussing on EV would have meant a slim down in cost, higher productivity, easier way of having different power options (1 or 2 engines, software limited power output etc.

Just one of the senseless decissions of that administration and of ours...
The USA having invaded a major oil producing country changes things quite a bit, though an American civil war would change things a lot.

I truely hope this will not end in a civil war, but I agree, it could. Nothing to do though with the EU turn on petrol cars, more to do with a leader and his mob that are transforming one of the best democracies into a fashistic dictatorship. Hope this can be stopped soon...

“Fashistic dictatorship”. Realize what you are describing,,,,a country that stops elections, jails innocent citizens, or citizens with opposing political views. I see nothing of the sort. Throwing around these terms is quite simplistic and childish.
I do however see ‘empire establishment’, or more like empire confirmation. Since the fall of earths last empire, the UK, perhaps at the end of WW2, the unspoken empire has been the USA. The most recent actions of regional defensive measure, elimination of AN ACTUAL communist dictator , with scary ties to Hezbolah, terrorist cells within Venezuelan land mass, , and very close relationship with actual murderous dictatorship China,,,,are clear examples of defensive measure by an empire, guarding its borders, its hemisphere location. Now, I may not agree with it, I may be intimidated by it , but the first order of business is to identify it and understand what is really going on. It is a big move to offer pronouncement of empire without words, hasn’t happened in decades on this earth.

Don't forget the Soviet empire also known as Russia, which is still active.

As for the US, when part of the country, after having tried to storm one of the elected chambers 4 years back, tries to neutralise one of the pillars of democracy, the judiciary, not to mention the media, uses armed militias against it's own people; it may not have much to do with an empire, but a lot to do with a totalitarian state. As for foreign policy, it has a lot to do with cutting the cake in agreement with other non democratic states.

Yes but a totalitarian state where 77 million two hundred and eighty four thousand , one hundred and eighteen of its citizens freely voted for the current incumbant.
You may say that in 2016 the electorate didn't know what they were getting but in 2024 they absolutely did, so is this totalitarian ?

I tend to agree.

Hey, there’s already a civil war in that country. It probably will not be all
Out combat, but state separation certainly is in the future.
As for other external ‘bodies’, like NATO, the UN, etc . These bodies are essentially inert without US funding. Everyone knows it, the EU chooses to ignore it by sheer embarrassment. The EU is drunk on power just like all leaders of the world. Greenland??? Certainly it will not be invaded ( the USA already has a military base there), but a considerable offer of funds to the 50,000 residents there to
Purchase the land, just like Alaska, will happen, were Greenland resident will tell Denmark “administrators” to pound sand,,,frozen sand!

Of course electric vehicles will be entangled in this, with vital minerals for batteries within Greenland, much less Chinese sourced minerals are needed, another ‘empire’ stabilizing move for the future.
Hey, I’m not saying g I like this, but reality and fact overwhelm emotional empathy brain sympathy.

Agreed.

If driverless cars are so easy to do, why don’t we have driverless trains? Surely that must be orders of magnitude simpler? No turning, cross traffic is very minimal, just speed and braking to regulate.
I believe there are already driverless farm equipment, since they have been GPS guided in the fields for at least a decade with the operator simply monitoring the progress. Their role these days is mostly to drive from the farmyard to the field where the guidance system takes over.

Singapore terminal transfers are by driverless light rail.

The truck I’m driving has automatic collision stuff, a precursor to fully driverless vehicles

It’s mostly set off by reflective signs and white marker posts with reflective stickers on them on left hand bends, and slams the brakes on mid corner at 100kph, which tends to wake you up 😳 and if another truck is up ya arse it wakes that driver up too,

In a ‘real’ collision situation the brakes slam on, the hazard lights come on and once you remove your face from the windscreen you can continue on as before.

But here’s a weird situation: I’m stopped at an intersection with traffic lights, dual lanes and about to turn right into dual lanes.

The truck and a car are first vehicles at the lights. On the green, I take off, the car driver a few seconds after me because the female driver was looking at her phone 🙄

Halfway through the right hand turn the car comes past me and once ahead of me, but in their lane still, by a few metres the brakes slam on, hazard lights on and the wake up alarm is activated and truck stops mid corner!

The car somehow set the anti collision system off as it came into view of the sensor, the car ……. Tesla 😡

Honestly, it’s more of a monarchy than a totalitarian state.

The flim flam man talks a great game and does the opposite, no new Wars but actively seeks them everywhere. They may not be perfect, but both NATO and the UN were conceived after 10s of millions died in WW2, and this idiot talks them down into oblivion. The latest 3 spheres of infloence doctran scares me a lot. For the Canadians, switching from F35s to the Saab JAS 39 Gripen speaks volumes about the number 51. And now talk of military encroachments into Mexico, just plain Insanity being ramped up for no good reason.

Q the Emperor has no clothes. Everyone is hoping to outlast the next 3 years or some Medical issue arrives first, so they don't have to confront him. His Ukran coments would be the result for all trying that action. Confronting him won't help, as his hand-picked cronies are just as nuts. At least Common Sense and reality are slowly appearing in both Houses of Government, and maybe the Courts, and they have clapped back a bit on Epstein and a few other issues, again hopefully not too little and not too late. Maybe the Military might decide he has or will cross a line re ilegal eg Uncontituional orders, but that's grasping at straws. It's a complete shit show with the potential of a very big shooting war. His Ice bunch have an uncanny resemblance to the Brown Shirts, who ended up morphing into the Gestapo.

They are not mutually exclusive.

Indeed hysterical (historical) evidence shows a preponderance for totalitarian monarchies leading to revolution and republics...

Full circle republic to monarchy?

Novel.
Has happened.
Go back to French history which went from monarchy, to republic, to empire, back to monarchy, republic and second empire before establishing a republic which lasted from 1871 to 1940 when the German occupation allowed the establishment of a totalitarian presidential regime.
We've had a republic since 1945.

A woman lies dead in a morgue in Minneapolis ... who killed her? Personally I'm utterly ashamed that our country has anything to do with the USA as it stands today and most would be happy if the AUKUS agreement were torn up.
An armed militia in the service of a power further and further away from the people of the country.
