Eu U-turn on petrol cars

Regarding the almost universal 100% fiscal failure of electric motorcycles, I submit to you the much talked about and loved upon tree hugger set, local, Damon Motorcycles. Brand new factory built only 4 miles from my home, regional offices for export and distribution.
Certainly IMO a much more visually appealing machine, than most.

I agree ........ one electric motorcycle that doesn`t look like a Lego kit assembled by a five year old .......

Also interesting to note the threat detection allied to real-time rider behaviour ..........information which is then shared in real time with various fleet operators ............. and then hopefully recorded and stored to provide improvements and upgrades to existing and future AV technology ?

Something for Tesla to make a note of , in the interests of all our safety ?

Yes.
We have the world's first fully automated metro in Lille. Must be 30 years now.
Paul

The Lille Metro becomes airborne ? ............ o_O ......................

I remember a news story about cheapo airline Ryanair planning to ditch the co-pilot as ....... " one pilot can handle all the tasks needed ......... and the flight attendants can be trained to take over in an emergency ... " ..........

" Drop the refreshments tray and get in the cabin Doris ......... the pilot`s had a heart attack and we`re losing altitude at 2000 feet per minute ........... " ...........

Ryanair CEO Michael O`Leary will be booking a seat on EasyJet from now on .......................

I must admit that I do not know anything about flying a plain, I am just a trustfull passenger, that hope the guys in front know what they do and do love and value their own lives. However, in theory (!!), a pilot-less plain should be less dangerous than a driverless cars. No pedestrians, no bikes, no cars, no bicycles, no traffic lights, no signs, nothing. Starting and landing sound to me the most dangerous part of a flight. not sure how much the pilots really do once they reached their travel altitude?!?

If driverless cars are so easy to do, why don’t we have driverless trains? Surely that must be orders of magnitude simpler? No turning, cross traffic is very minimal, just speed and braking to regulate.
I believe there are already driverless farm equipment, since they have been GPS guided in the fields for at least a decade with the operator simply monitoring the progress. Their role these days is mostly to drive from the farmyard to the field where the guidance system takes over.

Of course trains have,,,,,,tracks,,,,,so only stop - go scenarios to deal with. No directional change required. Essentially much easier to configure, except for the HUGE carnage if that did not work.

Part of my windshield installation on Teslas is literally a 20-50 minute drive around town where the cameras ‘observe’ street lights, pedestrians, bicycles, motorcycles, road lines, other vehicles, etc….with intention to make ready the software for possible customer optional upgrade of ‘self drive ‘ feature,,,,,not ‘legal in North America’ as it required the drivers seat occupant to have both hands of the steering wheel,,,,,, through credit card and satellite download,

We trust pilotless missiles to drop bombs into teacups the other side of the world.
Or put satellites into orbit without which we wouldn't be writing all this bull.

Autopilot = driverless plane.
that is what I have thought in the past, too. However, a pilot told me that is wrong. Yes, the Autopilot can today steer a plain to a certain direction once it has reached it's altitude, but it still needs a pilot to
-get the plain airborn
-reach the altitude
-enter the course
-make decissions of correction, based on weather situation, air streams and many other things
-communicate with the tower to agree on a landing time and scenario
-do the whole landing

Many of that could be automated in the future, for sure. It is not yet today for a single reason: There are 100 or more human lives involved. not so on a drone or a missle...

The pennt finaly dropped. I have been following this blokes Utube for a few years. He started travelling on a Honda Dominator maybe 5 years ago. Then switched to an Electric Zero, which he did 60k through maybe 30 countries, including China, some crazy riding. When that bike finally died, somehow he ended up with this. I think he has morphed into a rider for hire that permotes Electric bikes. Its preety intersting to watch. He is riding around Japan at the moment and will be back on his Honda Dominator and heading to Africa.

Under Key points:

"The announcement comes after Ford said it would record similar writedowns following a broad resetting for the U.S. EV market due to consumer demand and changes by the Trump administration."

We expect the same losses, now that our government has changed direction again, too. The car industry faces massive issues having to offer ICE, hybrid and EV in parallel. this means 3 times the development work, 3 times parts storage, 3 times more complecate production etc. etc. etc. - not talking about having to look into alternative fuels, hydrogen etc. etc. etc.

Focussing on EV would have meant a slim down in cost, higher productivity, easier way of having different power options (1 or 2 engines, software limited power output etc.

Just one of the senseless decissions of that administration and of ours...

Out if interest, local price of a new Model 3 (RWD long range) is around 48000€. If a7500€ discount were available that would be about 15% discount so to say. That's still quite a stimulus, but I wonder what the % is for the USA. Does a similar M3 cost about the same there in $? I can't configure a Tesla on the US site as it keeps routing me back to a local one ;) (Claude AI tells me about $43000 but I can't verify)

Personally, for our use, an EV would be perfect, but I can't charge it on my driveway as I don't have any. If you do, combined with solar panels, especially given that in our little windy country fuel is about as expensive as can be, it would be quite a saving. Problem is not only the US and Germany keep changing their minds so people, including me, get hesitant about going on board one stimulus program or the other.

My wife uses our current car (Tipo Multijet, diesel) the most -for my work I travel with public transport -my employer pays very limited car costs but gives full refunds for public transport. My train connection is usually good, however, my sort of work does allow working in the train and from home so I'm more flexible as others. Also, where I need to be traffic is horrendous and all that waiting in traffic jams is my own time as I can't work, compared to work time in the train (I'd not have switched jobs anyway if this wasn't an option). A self-driving vehicle could help with that, but parking would be the next awful problem. So I sit in a big rail-bound EV almost every day -one guy (or girl) up front with 500-1000 people in the back seems pretty efficient :)

Today General Motors entered ‘special budget charges’ of $7.1 U.S. directly related to pullback of electric vehicles in conjunction with China assembly restructuring.

I’m sure it will all be fine!! 🤣

I'm not really sure what to think of this, but given how the Chinese are using the Japanese 1960s-1970s playbook I have a gut feeling I can't really support with data, they'll be profiteering massively from this in 10-15 years... But the internet never forgets, so I'll put a reminder in my phone to check this post in 15 years!
