1969 750 GT

By oil i mean 3in1 which has silicon in it not crude oil.
3 In 1 oil has no aromatics or surfactants in it. Bit like bady oil but then I'm not as padantic as some.
Regards Andy 😁

Yeah, the contact breaker points used today are very different 😂
I never oil nylon lined cables and only use lube at the lever on clutch cables,

Since points bother you, please count the number of threads on this forum concerning electronic ignitions dying and compare to those concerning points.
It's called a landslide victory.

3/1 fucks up lined cables.
As for aromatics, I've given up smoking.

I didn't want to touch on a sore point 😱
I love points, dead simple and easy. I only mounted my Ignitech to unclutter the upper frame from the monster coils. We even modify advance curves with SF points system, nothing to it.

I?m wondering if there?s a marine cable that would be suitable, I?ll Investigate !
I?m keeping my points but may fit transistor switching to stop them burning.
Moving the old bus around made me think of when Evel Knievel was first shown one - at no point have I ever thought this would jump well...

You're right about quite a few elec ign probs with (mainly) triples, Paul, but don't forget that the Japanese introduced a non-programmable version using spring advance mechs on their bikes in the late 70s and they were basically bulletproof. I used a Suzuki trigger, backing plate and black box on my SF and have done more km on that than I did on the (also very reliable) points.

If it was really that problematic, virtually every car and moto on the road today would be compromised.

Your right of course ,but there is a world of difference between a Japanese soiid state ignition and a Boyer that looks and works like a 6th form project with Lucas spade terminals. I have used Dyna ignition and they are superb but none for a Laverda. I will stick with points but You have sourced a very good alternative that obviously works and will produce a better spark, that?s a fact.

All I can say Quentin, is look at the number of posts on this forum concerning ignition problems related to electronic ignition on Laverda motorcycles, not Toyotas.

If, you don't have much choice on a triple, I really do not see the point of electronic ignition on a big twin used for touring.
Track use or getting noticed in front of the local caf? is another matter.

We still don't know who has 29mm and 30mm VHBs on their GT.

Paul

speedycables ,  swansea ,are excellent ,  Venhill are crap for sure, cables good ,outer is good , but they just use solder not silver solder on the nipples that just pull off , time and time again,  thats the weak  link , and stick with points loads of options , out there , and the bosch condensers are being made again so happy days .

Mine has 29mm carbs with no fuel link pipe, one tap per carb. Mine also has the Tomaselli single pull throttle, I see some used twin pull in that era.
Mine also has a small plate under the seat that says ? To Evel all my love Ago!?
No only joking,  The carbs are linked..

My American Eagle # 1303 has 29mm.

My 650 has 29mm of course.
Of my 2 GTs with first type frame, one was in 29mm and the other 30mm. The one with the 30mm has a lower frame n? than the other.
Either way, inlets in the head are probably around 27mm.

I know Evel sold some ex jump bikes , admittedly Harleys, with letters of authenticity that he & Roger Reiman cobbled up. One I heard of had no engine internals and had never been jumped, was in fact a prop bike used in cinemas for the Snake canyon jump. One careful owner..
