1999 Laverda 750 Sport Formula

Very entertaining reading the ‘personal advice’ on which motorcycle to possibly purchase. The anti “GS” rants are particularly laughable, throwing out absolutely ludicrous mpg claims of 25+ yr old full touring machines as a superior option to a GS.
Hey, I don’t drink the juice of any particular brand, or country source. Every manufacturer build crap as well as great machines. If a machine proves to me it’s garbage I don’t build silly excuses to give it excuses, it’s just bloody sent down the road.
Yes, flat twin Beemers have relatively emotionless engine notes. Laughably, my ‘91 GS has outlasted bikes my buddies bought 30+ yrs ago, at 239,000 kms with untouched engine , 3 runs deep into Mexico, and a 1200 oil cooled “hex”, at 100,000 kms, again laughably dispatches Hinckley 1200’s in the twisty bits in ‘iron butt challenge’ comfort. Both devoid of soul? Yeah maybe, but hey, it’s your choice now isn’t it?

I worked at a BMW garage and I rode them all- all good bikes but I rarely got off one thinking I want one. The exceptions were the K75 and the original ST & the first GS. The telelever GS was an amazing bike to ride, handled and braked better than any sports bike but the engine, although powerful , felt Flat. Anyway did your ’91 GS do That mileage with an untouched gearbox? I’ve rebuilt a lot of Beamer box’s ..

And final drives too, no doubt. You'd think that BM would have worked out how to build one that lasts by now. But having said that, I love my hexhead GS - it's a hoot to chuck around bends on tarmac. Feels like you're on top of the tower of Pisa 😁 - it's a long way to the ground.
I finally got to learn what they are built for after my first trip to S America in 2019.

Engine is untouched, gearbox rear seal done at 120,000. So yeah, not untouched.

How many fenders does one bike need?
One. Some bikes though need a spoiler to keep the front down on higher speed or direct cooling air to a liquid or oil cooler. And some designers just add something to make the bike look more to their taste.

I think if this is all you don't like on the bike, that'll be an easy fix to remove it... But I bet it doesn't look better afterwards... still, the bike for sure will outperform any of our old bikes easily, which then - by just seeing the rider from behind - makes it obsolet to remove anything on the front - won't see it ever... :D

Adventure bikes are definitely not pretty. Long standing stylists have been put in the closet for decades now, following “function first, form follows” type styling. It’s understandable, considering what abuse a lot of these things are put through, or what they are advertised to be capable of.
That modern Sportbikes have been seriously hit by the ugly stick, surprised me. KTM’s seem to
Have all fallen out of an ugly tree and have hit many branches on the way down.

Returning to the actual topic of this thread, it’s unfortunate there are now two of these ‘rare’ bikes for sale, although at different ends of the country.
